If you drop the microdrive on cement from 5 ft there's a good chance its toast - drop a compact flash that same distance and pick it up and keep using it without problems

Yes!
Mine did the same thing 3 weeks ago - its now at the Canon repair facility. It started out as yours did and then the manual focus ring got stiff and locked up. I'd had the lens 16 months so it was out of warranty.
Needless to say I expected much better longevity from the lens given the price.
The bottom line is the lens design is faulty and the lens will hoover in small pieces of dust and crud and fail eventually.

Sunil is correct, use Canon Fileviewer utility to adjust WB before converting to tiff format - it'll save you hrs of fooling around in PS or Elements or whatever
If you want something faster and more user friendly for adjusting your RAW files and converting to tiff or jpeg check out Breezebrowser or Capture One software

"but is it possible to reset Folder numbering (eg. 130-xxx to 101-xxxx) "
not AFAIK - I think you just have to shoot 10K pictures and let it roll over

Any Info on how to get the rest of the document?
On the Canon 10d, how can you tell how much more space on CF?
in Canon EOS Mount

usually if I'm interested in the # of kb available I just press the button labeled info on the back of the camera and look at the bottom row of the display, but normally I find the # of avaliable shots on the top panel sufficient for my needs
