I am in the market for a ball head for a leica table top tripod. I
don't want to spend the $200 for the Leica version. Does anyone have
any recommendations on less expensive alternatives?

I purchased 40.5, 39 and 43 hoods from Hevystar. They all are well made and very reasonably priced.

The CL meter is designed to turn on when you pull the wind lever out to the first indentation. I don't konw about the sticking problem, it may be caused by a loose connection or a sticking switch.

If the color is caused because of the use of lanthanum glass, you can clear it by letting the lens sit on a window sill in the sunshine.

Also in Auto there appear only 3 Aperature settings, 2.8, 5.6 and 11. In manual there are numerous alternatives. I guess what I am asking is it best for now just to leave it in Auto and use the 3 options?"
