  1. I agree with Lakhinder. I use the Rollei 6000 series for everything and my two favourite

lenses at the moment are the 40 & 180 Schneiders. Man, there amazing. I just shot a

poster campaign for a film and they blew the frames up to huge proportions, the guy at

the printers apparently was very impressed with the sharpness of the images.

If money is a worry then talk to Mike @ CTrades, 661-299-6829, mention my name and

he'll look after you. Has the best prices on the planet.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Andre is correct, I'd never work in this town (LA) again if I used a Bronica, that's the

sad truth. Bronica are excellent quality at a good price, no doubt about it.

But the way my gear gets treated, I really need to know it's going to work, everytime.

I've never had a problem with the Rollei, and I've been using them for over 16 years.

I'm shooting a book at present and man, the gear is getting pounded like crazy, lots

of BIG location shoots, but it keeps on ticking.

And they are really not that much more expensive than the rest when you look into

the 6001's, which I use all the time.

It all depends on what and who you shoot. In my business I can tell you that the

celebs are VERY impressed when they see my Rollei's. I would think in many other

avenues of Photography it would be equally impressive, say, wedding photograpy?

Also, thanks for your kind comments everyone.

    Take care,

    Ando.

  3. Go with the ROLLEI, I love them and they are treated like crap on my shoots

by my assistants and they still keep ticking. Actually, a lot of my regular

assistants over the years now own Rollei's because of me.

And YES, you get focus confirmation with the ROLLEI's on all lenses.

Plus Phase One and Imacon Express make digital backs for them, wicked

    quality.

As I have said on other postings the service is great if you know where to go.

I honestly haven't had any problems in the last 8 years except for a lazy

shutter on an 80mm, $135 to get repaired.

These things are tanks and yet are light and all have built in motor drives.

I heard a rumour through a very reliable scource and put it this way, I wouldn't

buy Hassy right now and I used them for years.

Also, I've spent $20,000 on ROLLEI and never regretted a moment.

Call Ctrades to get the best prices if your interested.

    Cheers,

    Ando.

  4. The Contax is a fantastic camera, no doubt. BUT, it only sync's at 1/125,

useless in the studio. The Hassy's are a great tank but for the price and the

same quality go for the ROLLEI 6000 series. I've used them for awhile now

and I'll never use another camera. Lenses are insane, they come with motor

drive built in, I can't praise them enough.

People go out and spend a ton on Hassy and for the same money you get so

much more with ROLLEI, I hear people complain about service but I've never

had to send anything in so I couldn't tell you, and believe me my gear gets

    punished.

You've just got to know where to look. Call Mike at Ctrades if you decide to go

with Rollei. The H1's are being pushed by Hassy because they annoyed

Zeiss, I heard that there's a big suprise coming, no what I mean.

    Ando.

  5. OK, lets sort this out once and for all. BRONICA is nowhere near the quality of

ROLLEI or Hasslefad. I used Bronica years and years ago and they are fine

but honestly, for the price of a 6001 body, which I use a lot, and some

secondhand HFT lenses, the ROLLEI is the superior choice.

Hassey's are overpriced and they are not as comfortable to use as a ROLLEI.

You get the drive built in etc, exceptional. I'll never use another camera again.

If you go through the right channels then the service is second to none.

Ctrades !!! Mike is really a nice guy and the service and prices are excellent.

Look into it Alec, honestly, even the new assistants I use on occasional jobs

are like ROLLEI, why do you use that stuff for. By the end of the shoot they

    want to by one.

    Ando.

  6. For years I held a Mamiya RZ67 with the prism and motor drive, HEAVY, as I hand

    hold all day.

Then I switched to Rollei 6006,what a difference!!! Then a couple of years ago I got

some gear from Mike at CTRADES, the guy is great, only place I buy from now.

Not long ago I got the 6008AF, sweet baby, sweet !!! This thing is LIGHT compared to

most medium formats with all the bells. I absolutely love this camera and the clients

love the quality, the 110 PQ f2 is wicked !!

Check for quality at my site:

If you want the best deal then Mike is the way to go.

    Ando.

  7. Mark Malkin is right on the ball. CTRADES are THE best Rollei dealers on the planet.

Rollei 6008AF is the best medium format camera I've ever used, amazing, I shoot all

over the place, the gear gets knocked around all the time and yet, in 6 years, I've

never had a single problem really with my 6001/6003/6008's, they are insane

    quality.

When I want to get a new piece Mike at CTRADES is who I call, best prices and service.

Lifes too short to deal with hassles.

If you want to see the quality you'll get with these cameras, check out my site.

    Tell Mike Ando sent ya!!!

    Ando.

  8. Thanks guys.

So Tor, I own a 6008 and I hand meter everything on shoots, it doesn't mean anything

to me, the metering in the camera, so I'd be fine buying my friends camera's,

because even on my 6008 I've never changed the ASA on the back, it's set at 100.

I shoot portraits and fashion for mainly editorial and I just have a routine.

  9. Will the back of a 6006 or 6002 work on a 6008?

    I have the opportunity to buy a 6002kit ( 80mm and back )and a 6006 ( with 2 6006

backs ) of a friend, both are mint and very cheap but he's not sure of the

compatibility with 6008. Also, he's 69 years old and not really up on these things.

    The whole things so confusing.

    Thanks,

    Ando.

  10. Hi,

OK, I've been told by several people that you can get good enough results to go to

press with scans from an Coolscan 8000/9000 on 6x6 neg and chrome, is this true?

My agent tells me it's crap and to just get things drum scanned.

I'm working on a book and it would be very cost effective if I can get prepress quality

on the Nikons, or as one assistant told me on the Minolta.

    Any thoughts anyone?

    Thanks,

    Ando.

  11. Hi,

OK, I thought I was happy enough with my prints, but, the truth is there is a very

slight lean to the magenta side, and it's driving me crazy. I'm on an Epson 2200

    which I just got recently.

Anyway, I'm not testing anymore, I know what papers I like, Konica QP premium

glossy. and the Ilford Gallerie smooth Gloss.

Here's my question- Has anyone tried either Cathy's profiles or Chromix for ICC

    profiles?

And if you did what was the outcome. I've heard they are both excellent.

Here are the links to there websites in case anyone is curious.

    Thanks in advance.

  12. Hi Arthur,

Try these two sites. I'm sure one of them will have the answers your looking for.

The Bill Atkinson profiles from Epson worked for me, but not for a friend??? The OPM

from Bowhaus worked better on his printer, don't ask me why...

All I know is this, I used a Pantone Spyder borrowed from a friend to calibrate my Apple

19" monitor at 2.2 gamma, the rest is, how you say "History".

Now I'm getting beautiful B+W (on EHW ) and gorgeous colour on Premium Lustre.

    Good luck.

  13. Hi,

Has anyone tried printing the canon photo paper pro on an Epson 2200 and had good

    results?

I just bought a 2200 and am going through the usual paper trials, I've had great

results on Konica QP paper and Ilford smooth gloss, thanks to advice I got on this

forum, but I was in the store and seen the Canon paper, it was very nice.

Unfortunately the sales staff had no idea how it prints on an Epson 2200.

    Does anybody have any info?

    Thanks.
