1. I have come to having a Bob Dylan song replay in my head -- "Everything is Broken". I still have confidence that some day in the near future, the scattered bits and bytes will be glued back together. In the meantime, I keep checking the Photo Contest page, and reading the forums.

It's been broken for such a long time now that I don't think that its utility will be restored,

  2.
Both my laptop & desktop suddenly had no CS3 on them. Unfortunately, I left the disc in Florida when I returned to Phila after the winter so I couldn't try to reinstall. So I went for my Photoshop CS. Now the program says that I need to put in the activation code. When I put it in it says "incorrect" - but it is correct and the Adobe website shows that it is registered with that exact code. Calling Adobe gets me nowhere. They just say that these older programs are no longer supported. Now I'm using my Photoshop 7. When will it fail? I'm waiting - it probably won't be long until Adobe figures out that someone still has a functioning copy. I'm beginning to believe that aliens did arrive at area 51 in Roswell, NM.

  3.
And don't forget that lenses can malfunction too. While in Paris my 24-105mm developed a "communication error" "clean your contacts" - no help. Fortunately, I had carried a 50MM with me and that got me through the trip. Recently, I purchased a used 100mm from a very reliable dealer - same error message, they replaced it immediately.

  4.
A backup camera body is always essential even for an amateur like me. Years ago I was in Acadia NP when my 50D died - I almost cried.
The other day my new 7D Markii (2 months old) failed (it's now with Canon repair) but I'm traveling with both my 50D and my old 7D. Thank goodness for my backups.
