  1. Hi CJ. I have been going through the same sort of decision making process. Every serious photog needs a good macro lens, and everyone who uses a macro has a favorite! One of my favorite places to shop is Keh Camera, (kehcamera.com). They sell both new and used cameras and lenses, and their reputation is second to none. They grade their used lenses from LN (like new) to UG ugly. You do have 2 weeks to return it. I bought a Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro about 3 months ago, it was rated BGN (bargain), and I paid $76.00. It had a couple of small scratches in the paint of the lens barrel, the lenses themselves were perfect. I have taken many shots with it, and I love it! Also, if you want to see reviews on popular lenses, go to photozone.de, They are the best for unbiased, detailed, reviews. As you will see, they let the chips fall where they may. I hope this helps.
  2. Hello again Frank. I took this shot about an hour ago, the sun is very bright here, giving fast shutter speeds. Here are the details; Shooting Mode is Aperture Priority. Shutter speed is 1/640sec. Aperture Value is 8f. Metering Mode is Evaluative. Exposure Composition is -1/3. ISO speed is 200. Lens is 18-55mm II. Focal length is 55mm. Image Quality is Fine. Image size is 3456x2304. White Balance is Auto. Auto Focus Mode is One-Shot AF. PARAMETERS: Tone Curve, is STANDARD. SHARPNESS LEVEL, is 0 (ZERO). Color Tone is Normal. I had the camera mounted on a pretty sturdy tripod, and used the Canon RS60-E3 cable release. I have found that using a tripod and cable release, I can get sharp shots at VERY SLOW shutter speeds. If there is anything else you think I might be able to help with Email me at jmcconnell2@triad.rr.com. Happy Hollidays! 3. Hi Frank, I don`t know about the 50mm lens, but I get very sharp photos with my 18-55mm Mark II lens. If I get the pre-focus indicator, (green light), hand held or tripod, the shot is sharp. For very long shots, (55-300mm), I use a tripod and cable-release, so as not to get any motion when I push the shutter button. Is the lens you got with your XT the 18-55mm MARK II version? The original EF-S 18-55mm lens, (with the digital Rebel), had the same problems you are having. Happy Hollidays! -Jim
  4. Hi Stuart, I am retired, I take pictures as a hobby, and to suppliment my income. I shoot at car shows, horse shows, dog shows, and other events where I think people might like prints. At a car show or cruise-in, I usually shoot 20-30 shots of each car that the owner wants prints of. Using different camera angles, different exposures, ect. Then I print a set of (1)11x14, (2)8x10`s, and (4)4x6`s. I have an Epson R1800 printer, which will print up to 13"x19", and the quality is fantastic! Thirteen by nineteen inch prints from a 6mp camera are ok, from an 8mp camera (Canon 350xt) are pretty darn good, and from a 12mp camera, (Canon 5D) are as good as anything I have ever seen! To answer your question, I don`t print many relative to the number of shots taken, but I want to make sure that I have the best shot possible before I print. Photo processing costs about 30 cents per square foot, ink-jet printing, on premium glossy paper, costs about $2.70 per square foot. Therefore, I take lottsa shots, and print once! Happy Hollidays, Jim.
  5. Does a CMOS sensor, and a CCD sensor have about the same lifespan? I have a digital Rebel that I bought in Sept 2003. This camera`s file system goes to 10,000, then starts over. I am on the 9th cycle, and I don`t see any defective pixels. I understand that Nikon is using their first-generation CCD on the D2X, is it a good camera? Which is the best type of sensor, CCD or CMOS? I just got a Digital Rebel XT, and like the original Digital Rebel, it has a CMOS sensor. If CMOS is better, why doesn`t every camera company use it? If CCD is better, why doesn`t every company use That? My brother has a Nikon D70, which he has had for about 1 1/2 years, we can`t find any bad pixels. He wants a higher resolution camera, which he says he will keep for several years, what is a good choice?
