Andy if you notice at the end of the post there are links to 3 other posts all related to various methods of creating this mask.
gradient is one of them, threshold and levels are others.

I've uploaded a Photoshop tutorial on how to achieve an HDR image using layer
masks, so it might be interesting for anyone who doesn't have CS2.

Why do you want faster speed? that is the question.
If it is to be able to hand held the shot, than IS will do great even better than 24-70 at 2.8. but if you need a fast shutter to freeze the moment/action then the 2.8 is a plus for sure.
I've read about every thread on this subject on the net and came up with a summary of pros/cons of each. the full summary can be found at

There is finally a photoshop action that will automatically correct the white
balance of a picture, Chip Springer (its author) called it the digital grey card.
looks neat.<br>

the cheapes monopod that will go for this combo?
BTW I already have a manfrotto tripod and head so i prefer to be able to use the

I am about to buy the 70-200L 2.8 IS and I want more reach than 200. I read a
lot of good reviews about the "cheap" tamron so I was thinking of buying both
the 1.4x and 2.0x tamron instead of the 1.4x canon is it a bad idea? too much
compromise in IQ?
thanks

But Weiyang as far as I know, Canon don't apply any NR on the RAW data. isn't it true?
-
I am sorry Jamie, I won't be able to give you such details i'm not the one who conducted the study, however the link to the original thread can be found in the bottom of the post. But John (the user who posted this news) is really knowledgeable and has a very good reputation

One of the first things I learned in photography is that a lower ISO means less
noise. And after 4 years I was proven wrong.
If you own a 30D/5D I'm think this might interest you

My $80 lens (the 50mm 1.8 MKII) is sharper than my 24-70L f/2.8 till f/4 (and i
mean SHARPER)
1) is this normal?
2) could it be my 24-70 is a lemon?
thanks
