I saw a thread many moons ago where there was a discussion about
somebody who was using a ST-E2 instead of a cord to run to their flash on a
bracket. There were some good pictures in the thread, showing how the
photogher set the equipment up. Well, now I can't find that thread. I have a
10D, battery grip, and will use an ST-E2. I want a bracket. I got the QuickFlip
350 before I knew it was too small. Now, I need to know what bracket to use.
I'd love to see those pictures that were in the original thread if anybody knows
where they are or has them.

Good advice. Maybe I need some sort of bag for the camera while it's on the tripod. I think it's best I pick a lens and stick with it. I dont' think I need to change lenses, ever. I didn't think of that..thank you.
Anybody shooting digital that can help me out here?

I just bought a 10D. Will arrive early next week. That gives me two
weeks to get used to it before I take my family to Florida for a
week. My question is this: Can anybody give me some good technique
(placement, time, setting, flash, etc.) info for taking a family
picture on the beach? I want to set the shot up and then run into the
shot. I'll take some pics of just my wife and son also, but it's the
family shot that I really want to come out right. I think we're going
to all do the standard white shirt, khaki pants, no shoes thing.
Where we are staying, there are alot of condos, so I'm guessing the
water would be the best background, rather than risking getting a
tall building in the shot...but I could be wrong. I'd appreciate any
expertise or ideas that anybody can offer. I have two flashes, and a
wireless transmitter if I need to set up any artificiall light. Thank
you all who resond.

Thank you everybody for chiming in. I'm going to take a serious look at my equipment possibilities. I really wanted to go digital so that I can kinda teach myself with instant results. But, I'll look more into the different bodies out there. Again, thanks for the expert advice. You all have great shots in your portfolios.

Hey everyone. Well, after reading posts on here for about a year or so, and
reading every article and such I could get my hands on...I'm ready to make an
investment into some photography equipment. I'm a television producer by
career, and I've been a professional videographer for 8 years. I've shot many
weddings for video as just a cheap freelance guy. I've never really marketed
or anything...I've just done it for extra money. Well, I'm starting to get a little
more serious about it. I'm thinking of possibly opening my own business
when my wife gets out of graduate school with her PhD. What I want to do is
parlay my new, about a year, interest in photography into something more
than a hobby. If I'm to open a business, I'd like to be able to do video and
photography. So, I'm looking at buying photo equipment next month, and
then taking a year or so to get to know more of the equipment and techniques
before I try and pick up any gigs. I've been doing alot of research, and here's
a list of the equipment I'm considering starting out with. Any suggestions or
comments would be well appreciated.
Canon 10D --
Canon 550EX Flash --
(2) Canon BP-511 Batteries --
Canon BG-ED Battery Grip --
(2) SanDisk CompactFlash Cards 1GB --
Canon ST-E2 Wireless Transmitter --
Sigma 24-70 2.8 --
Sigma 70-200 2.8 --
A Bogen Tripod and head (I don't know which one) --
Some kind of Stroboframe --
Stofen Omni Bounce --
Lumiquest UltraSoft --
Tamrac 610 Camera Bag --
Monopod (I don't know which one) --
Battery Pack for Flashes (????)
With 10D's crop factor, I'd like to get a wide angle lens, maybe sigma's 14mm?
I already have some equipment (Rebel 2000, Sigma 500 DG Super, Canon
50mm 1.8, Canon 28-105 3.5-4.5, Battery Grip for 2000.) So, I'll have two
flashes, and I've already got the mandatory 50mm lens. It looks like I'm a big
sigma fan, but I've just seen that it's good quality for the money. If anybody
thinks I should sacrafice something elso for Canon glass...I'm open to that.
This is a big project for me. I'm looking to spend around or less than $4000. I
would appreciate any help on this that I can. Thank you.

I'm getting a 10d soon. I'm a professional videographer, who's looking to
make photography a serious hobby and maybe make a few dollars. I have a
Rebel 2000, with a Sigma 500DG Super flash. If I might get into portrait work,
or weddings, should I get a Canon 550ex to put on the 10D with the Sigma
flash on the Rebel for back-up and/or slave flash on stand, or should I get a
strobe set-up with maybe a soft-box. The 550ex is around $300, so I wouldn't
want to deviate too much from that cost.
What flash bracket for 10D, grip, and ST-E@
