1.
Tomek, yes thanks I will experiment. It would also be interesting to have two pages, one with images saved at 8 and one at 12 and see how much difference there is in loading time. Wonder if someone has done that?
I am ashamed to say that in this case I saved the images only as .jpegs. Didn't think I'd want or need them for anything else other than this one gallery. Oh well, live and learn.

 2.
Tomek, thanks.
My blog and website template on wordpress offers a few sizes. I go with Large at 958 wide x ? which I use for horizontal images. I haven't yet figured out what looks good in a vertical image to go along with that...working on it...
Tomek, Patrick and all... one more question
This has gotten off topic from my original question but thanks for sticking with the conversation :)
I have uploaded most of my images at 12 quality. Can I take those same .jpegs saved at 12 and re save them at 10 or 8 without deterioration or do I have to start all over?

 3.
Ellis, thanks for looking and for your comment.
Until today I haven't ever added saturation...and the images I'm working on now have not been posted yet!
Probably some of the images you saw were .jpegs created by my 5DII...maybe the camera .jpeg setting oversaturates reds?
The images I am working on right now I am adding saturation at +10 so it should be pretty subtle...at least I hope so!

 4.
Thanks Matt, Marc and Ellis for your responses.
Patrick, thanks. I am not embedding any monitor profile, just saving as sRGB but I assumed that (for example) if I am seeing an overly bright image...since my monitor before profiling luminance was set at around 200... I might have darkened the image based on my monitor and then I assume it would look very dark to someone whose monitor was set at luminance 110, no?
Anyhow I just re-calibrated to make sure something wasn't amiss...currently my luminance is set at 101, guess I'll leave it there and will take your advice to work with saturation to make up for some of what I "lost." I agree that the Imac profile was too bright and the color palette was not my favorite...but I am not sure that I am now seeing warmer tones and less blue (as you mentioned?) I'm no color expert so I will take your word for it :)
Thanks for looking at my site and for your suggestions!

 5.
I’ve got a new 27 inch imac and am in the midst of editing images to put on the soon to be new and improved http://cathyscholl.com/ which I just moved to wordpress.
I realized this morning that I had not yet calibrated my new monitor so I used my (oldish?) Eye-One Match and voila! All the images that I selected for my online galleries suddenly look awful! MUCH less vibrant than they did with the imac profile
I was planning to re-work the images with the new Eye-One profile so they will at least look good online to anyone who has a profiled monitor…
Even though these images are only for web galleries I think I am still going to be a lot better off uploading images that look good with the Eye-One Match profile than the imac profile, don’t you agree?
The imac profiled images looked good to me but they’re bound to look very dull to most anyone else due to how bright the Imac profile is, correct?
Thanks in advance,
Cathy
6.
Charles thanks for introducing me to f-stop bags. Looks like they are trying to provide a good product for the traveling photographer.
@Arthur...I hear you regarding reducing clothing! I am always trying to take less and less.
I also would like to get away from carrying a laptop. Wish the ipad would also work as a vehicle for downloading images...with a USB port for backup hard drives. Maybe one day...
Keep those suggestions coming! Good information, thanks.

 7.
Dieter hopefully I will have a place to leave my main luggage most of the time.
So yes, I am primarily looking for a system to use while in transit between places.
I am thinking along the lines of what you have suggested...backpack for clothes and personal items and a small wheeled carryon for all the rest although it may be a bit clumsy in places where I cant use the wheels...I was recently in the Delhi train station where there are many stairs and wheeled luggage was not a good option!
As you mention, the other options aren't great either. Two backpacks would be a hassle, a shoulder bag wouldn't stay on...maybe I could strap it across my chest? How do you take a sling bag on and off over a backpack? Guess I'd have to take the backpack on and off first? Guess it's all a bit clumsy!
The best bet would be to omit the laptop and shrink my camera gear. Someday I hope that will be possible!
All of you are helping me with my thinking process. Thanks.

 8.
@Michael, thanks. I just looked at Think Tank and they look like nice bags.
I certainly hear good things about the company but I am not looking for a "camera bag" per se, rather a way of carrying my existing camera bag (listed above) along with my laptop and a backpack for clothes as a "system."
Sometimes I will be walking with all of it...not too long distances, sometimes flying, sometimes train, bus, etc.
Any bag suggestions for a carryon which would contain my Micro trekker 100, laptop, etc. that I could carry along with another backpack?
@Dieter, you are on the right track. Yes, you are correct about carryon regulations. I don't need a purse. If I have one bag which will hold my camera bag and laptop I can throw sunglasses, etc in there too. Any specific bag suggestions?
Thanks!

 9.
Hi Dieter,
Our posts may have overlapped. Did you see my second post? It covered a bunch of info I didn't include in the first post.
I was thinking of the North Face bag (or something else...with optional wheels? I am looking for suggestions) as a substitute for my current Eagle Creek rolling suitcase
This bag I will check on flights to use for clothing and other personal items.
The question is if my main luggage is a backpack how do I carry my camera backpack, laptop and other gear in addition to the backpack?
Camera bag, camera and lenses I have listed above but there are also two hard drives, a small sound recorder and more.
Hope that clarifies things.

 10.
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your response. I now realize I left out several important details in my first post.
First off, I already have a camera backpack I am very happy with, the Lowepro Micro trekker 100. It's small but is perfect for my Canon 5DII along with my 24-70 and 16-35 2.8L lenses. I also have a Case Logic laptop case I like alot. It's a security friendly backpack which unzips so I dont have to remove my Macbook Pro when going thru security.
Unfortunately if I want to get away from a suitcase or duffel and carry my clothes and other personal items in a backpack (which I would like to do) that makes a total of three backpacks to carry.
So I have to find another way to carry the laptop and camera gear...I dont want to change camera bags, so ideally I'd like to find a bag I can put my existing camera bag and laptop in that can be carried along with a backpack for clothing, etc.
I can check the backpack on flights and carry on the rest.
I don't need the separate laptop backpack.
I usually travel for 6 weeks to 2 months and hope to extend to 3 months so I need a decent amount of clothes, more than I can tuck into a camera bag.
p.s. I am small. So how to carry all this gear? Thanks for your suggestions!

 11.
Greetings,
I am looking to change the way I carry my gear and would like your suggestions.

I've been traveling with wheeled luggage but I really need to use a backpack for my clothing, etc. for upcoming travel.
There are some wheeled backpacks such as the North Face Doubletrack 28 that look good but I still need my camera bag for when I am out shooting. I will carry this on any planes. Also I carry my laptop which I will need to remove from the main backpack to carry on.

If I use a backpack as my primary piece of luggage along with my current laptop bag and camera bag that will be a total of three backpacks which obviously doesn't work.
Does anyone have a packing system they recommend? Hope so!
Thanks.

 12.
I'm just so happy to see Scott Ferris posting that I had to say something :)) Hi Scott! Just like the good old days.
Seriously...happy to see this thread. In my limited use of movie shooting on my 5d I've been having a tough time with focusing. I've always used Live View so maybe I'll have better results without it. I will also check threads related to focus in movie mode. Thanks.

 13.
Hi,
Just downloaded my first CF card shot with my new 5D Mark II. I seem to have a problem.
I've read previous posts saying there are problems with opening raw files in CS3 but I have CS4 version 11.
Here's what's happening:
I am able to view .jpegs in Bridge but only get the CR2 (raw) icon for my raw shots, no photo visible.
I can see the raw photos in the folder on my desktop but when I go to open them in Photoshop I get
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."

Any idea what's up?
Thanks in advance.
Cathy

 14.
I just took my new 5D Mark II out of the box last night. Love it! (but you already knew that.)
The first thing I noticed is the addition of the AF-on button.
I use CF IV-1 on my 5D to use the * (star) key to separate focus from exposure.
With the Mark II I have more options. I can use AF-on for that same function OR switch places between the two buttons and continue to use the star key, right?
I'm interested in hearing which setup you prefer.
NOW...what about CF-IV on the Mark II? Could someone please do a better job of explaining it than the manual?
It is unclear to me what they are talking about. Does 2 only work in Al Servo mode?
Thanks!
