Fabiano, lovely portrait. it tells a story, a proud looking grandmother in her environment so we can see something of her life. JP

Chase, Even if you hadn't explained that this child was an orphan just by the expression of wariness and their use of the door as a barrier you know life hasn't been easy for this little one. The minimal depth takes your attention immediately to the eyes. Combining that with the partial masking of the left eye, the black B/G, the angle of view and the final crop gives you an extremely strong and confronting image. JP

Interested to know what anyone thinks. I shot this during a film shoot
in NZ.

Cristian, I like the B+W and the light but I have looked through the potters folder and the only image that explains or connects this man to his profession is the higher angle shot where you don't get a great look at his amazing face. I would have loved to see him in his environment so it was the photograph that explained who he was and not you having to explain that in your critique request. JP

John Paul, It's in her eyes, her smile, her body language. No need for a caption, it is there without a doubt. Love it!!!!

Samuli, I love the image, I also believe that any retouching should be believible and yours is. I used to print all my own B+W and try to use that as a guide when retouching in Photoshop. If I couldn't have achieved it in the darkroom then I will question myself before doing it in Photoshop, hope that makes sense. JP

Colton, lovely light which is so important. For me the composition is to centred Cooper mor on the left of frame would have improved things and also be aware of backgrounds. The brighter area behind Cooper's right shoulder is a little distracting. Keep shooting, JP

Bulent, For me the emotion of this image would have been increased by framing out the ship in the background. Without it she would be completely alone.JP

Terry, Must be honest, not quite sure what it is about Burano that I like so much but it certainly grabbed my attention. Perhaps the colours, the washing leading me through the door to the darkened room. Whatever it was I wanted to see more of your work and wasn't dissapointed. lovely compositions there as well. JP

Heartless - Maitland Goal, NSW
in Fine Art
Posted
Over the past 8 years I've been putting together a portfolio of images
that feature Hearts. I found this one at the now disused Maitland
Goal. Amazing in such a place as this that what dominates the skyline
is row upon row of razor wire hearts. They are not created by me, they
are there in plain view for all to see.
