I don't understand your problem. may be you mean the this photo
If so, please explain your problem more in a way that "underexposed" people ( like me) can understand. ;-)

better!!

with the FilmGet-Software you have to adjust the exposure ( +-) , normally the automatic adjustment works well. You can also adjust the Monitor Gama setting (depends of contrast of your slide and the setting of your monitor). I adjust this setting for every new film scan. First

now the top photos ( by originality) of the last year starts with a rating of 5.75. May be it is a bug but also it can be a new feature ;-)
-
The feature curator is more than experimental it is a joke!
-
OK William, I stay cool :-) The ratings are back.
But after all the discussions of the last days and weeks and after the last changes ( number of ratings )I am very
distrustful about changes to this rating system. But I know how difficult it can be to manage such a big system.

today in the morning I have some ratings on my last postings
( 14,3,3)
Now in the afternoon they are gone. Zero ratings. Blowing in the wind?
What's going on.
A new experiment or am I not welcome on
photo.net.
I hope this is an error an not an act of arbitrariness.
-
Since 2-3 weeks the errors are heavy and I stopped my activities on photo.net.
Example
Gallery | Browse PhotosHTTP/1.0 500 Internal Server Error Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 MIME-Version: 1.0 Date: Sat, 26 Jul 2003 05:51:21 GMT Server: NaviServer/2.0 AOLserver/3.3.1+ad13 Content-Length: 547 Connection: close

Limit the number of 7's and 1's to 1 per week per user. Somebody suggested to keep the 7-rating for extra ordinary pictures. So you would have one week time to decide which photo is a 7-shot. When you have the full range 1-7 to rate you use it, somtimes spontanously, by the wow-effect. I think the decimal scala is too much.
-
this error is new at this site. I get it now every day. Somtimes also
when I want to put a comment the loggin dialog apears and I have to go back with the history button to repeat the request. The server "thinks" the connection is lost. Somtimes you have to repeat 3 or 4 times to get the page!!!
-
after all the discussion about the rating system is the "boost" only a improvement of the visibility on the top-pages. the subscriber has, for 25$, space for more pictures and other advantages. the rating should remain independent of the status. the newcomer to this site should get the boost and more chances to be rated by others, who do not know him/her.
-
make the rating number anonymous so we'll only have "friendly" rating on comments and a better text-traffic :-)
-
Brian, an other possibility would be to boost newcomers or new subscribers for a while ( e.g 1 month giving them 10 ratings more).
There are so many good photographers with zero-rating on photonet.
But you should mark them with a bonus sign. now when somebody sees the high number of rating he/she may think that they are manipulated.
-
when I did understand well, the new Idea of Brian: to boost the new subscribers and to keep the older down, so I think we'll got some problems.
-
do I understand right? Old subscribers get a boost of some rating-counts and the new one not or less?? I think some of my posting disappeared in a period.
Brian, please could you explain your Idea in simple words for me and other poor-english-speakers? :-)
-
the highest nr-of-rating of all is 341
and 231 is the highest since 3 days.
may be problems with a query?
-
I think this one was a POW?

The question is not PhotoShop or not PhotoShop
but where is the limit where Photography become GraphicDesign?
Look at Franz Lutz
a classical photographer who created works
in the darkroom using chemical processes.
To do things like that in photoshop is not easy and takes a lot of time.
I think ( as mentioned above) the most alternation
we do in photoshop can also be done without any software.
Using some tricks you can change a very poor photo into a pieco of "art?" causing WoWs.
But the result is decisive what should be considerd as kitsch andwhat as artwork.
I agree to the opinion that in a forum like photonet there should be
a special section for heavy photoshop manitulated works. We should not mix
classic photos with photo-graphic. Evrybody who posts works should
make the separation.

"Exclusion from the Gallery Rating System", using Anna as an example. So we can find a solution ( Marc's Idea) or we can stop this thread openning an new one where we can discuss the rating system.
-
the low-rate-bombs can be disarmed by the person who have put it.
When not, so this rating will remain as a personal public memorial of this "war";-)
-
very good solution you have my full support. I know my mate-ratings on all photos I rated during the last 2 weeks so I can help find it.
best robertO

Oops
Marc :"who takes fairly good pictures would actually love such
image to the point of rating it a 7"
so-called good pictures taken by professional top photographers appear often in the
photography journales. Some of us would rate their picures with 7/7
others with 3/2. You can look of so many examples of different styles of
prominent artists and you can be sure the rating scala would range from 3 up to 7.
sorry it is not only a matter of brain and two eyes. But the matter how you use it.
-
Marcdon't forget the fact that Anna used to delete low rated photos. somtimes I could see how fast her postings disappeard after geting a low rating. This effect can be observed also on other portfolios. So only photos with rating 5 and higher are in the folders. You mentioned my name as a member of the group of friends. I become frien after I saw the discrimination of her. I don't like when people are treated that way. I have no proble to delete all mate-ratings when Ann could come back
Bob
if you refere to my rating of more than 2000 works during the last 8 weeks so consider the time I spend in photo.net looking and commenting. in average more than 2 hours a day. That makes
pro rated picture some 10 minutes per picture!? And there are a lot of people having an average rate of more than 5.6 !?
But you are stil right it's PR-work and Show-Bizz ;-)
-
You are right, I only wanted to limit my recipe to 10 point.:-)
