This little girl is the newest student in my mom's private elementary

school geared towards poor families in karachi, pakistan. She was

pretty shy and serious most of the time while I was visiting her

class. Just before I was about to leave she broke the sweetest smile

and I was luckily there to capture the moment.

Met Shamir during my travels to northern Pakistan near Kashmir. Kids

are the real casualties of the adult power struggles in war torn

areas like Kashmir.

Took this photo in a childrens school in Karachi, Pakistan recently.

The school is a result of recent charitable efforts to improve the

quality of education for poor students in the city. The students get

free uniforms, food and medical care as part of the program.

This photo works really well for me. The moody expression and the tight crop net out a great composition. The high contrast and lack of sharpness in the face also add to the photo IMO. Well done!

I was captivated by this poor boy's gaze as he dejectedly walked

along a road carrying garbage. A reminder of the disparity that

exists in our world - everyone has dreams, but only a few are lucky

enough to live them.
