  1. Right now I don't need ecommerce capability but sometime in the future I may want to add it. I want a site to display my photos with a good search function and which allows those to whom I give permission to download files.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or expertise to design it myself. I am looking for something pre-packaged but I want to purchase the software and use it on my own host. I like the look of Image Folio Pro and it seems to be completely customizable and can be uprgraded to support ecommerce.

If anyone has used this software, I would like to get your opinion on it. Or if anyone has any other suggestions for pre-packaged software, please let me have them.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. I have a number of images at several "agencies" such as Alamy, Digital Railroad

Marketplace and Photographers Direct. Alamy and Digital Railroad grant buyers

non-exclusive licenses. If the buyer wants an exclusive license, they contact

you to be sure that it is ok to give the buyer an exclusive license. With the

Photographers Direct set up, I have to negotiate directly with the buyer with

regard to the type of license. I have been thinking about producing a self-

published book using blurb.com or one of the similar sites. The book would be

offered for sale on my website and, perhaps, at local bookstores.

My question is this. Can I use images that are available for licensing on

Alamy, Digital Railroad Marketplace and Photographers Direct in the book and

still grant non-exclusive licenses through these various outlets for those same

images? I realize that using a picture in the book may prevent an exclusive

license being granted for it but I want to find out whether non-exclusive

    licenses can still be granted.

I realize that any opinions will be subject to the caveat that an attorney

should be consulted but I would like to hear from anyone who may have

experience with this type of situation.

  3. Hi Michael,

I live in Nassau. There are a lot of photo opportunities. I will try to give you some ideas. You can also have a look at my website www.shanepinder.com. Most of the images on that sight were taken on Nassau or Paradise Island.

I have never done the helicopter tour but I would think that midday would be the best time as the sun will be shining straight down and it would be easier to capture the aquamarine colour of the water.

If you are interested in sunrise shots there are a number of locations to get them.

    1. At the top of the eastern most bridge connecting Paradise Island to Nassau. This is the bridge where traffic flows off of Paradise Island to Nassau. On the western most bridge traffic flows from Nassau onto Paradise Island.

    2. Fort Montagu. You will need a rental car or cab to get there. It is maybe 15 minutes from Paradise Island. You can get good shots here of the sunrise over Montagu Bay.

From the top of the westernmost bridge you can get good shots of the Atlantis Hotel and Nassau Harbour. At this spot in the late afternoon the light on Atlantis Hotel is very nice as the sun will be setting at your back as you look toward the hotel.

You can get great shots within Atlantis Hotel itself. There are quite a few photo opportunites there - Marina Village, The Digs, the tunnel running under the aquarium, etc.

You can do day trips to Rose Island. This is an island just off of Paradise Island that has beautiful beaches.

Like I said there are a lot of photo opportunities. If you want any more info just email me at shane@shanepinder.com.

  4. Hi Ed,

Earlier this year, I started using the PhotoStore website gallery software. Prior to that I had a static html website but I found that it was taking me too long to update my site and add new pictures. I considered trying to build my own website using PHP and MySQL but decided that I just didn't have the time or patience to go that route.

I came across the PhotoStore software while searching the web and decided to give it a try. I am happy with it so far. You can customize the appearance of the site if you are familiar with html coding. I found that their customer service was responsive. There are also forums on the developers website that provide assistance with customizing and so forth.

The web address for the developer of the software is http://www.ktools.net/. You can have a look at my website at www.shanepinder.com.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Hi Rob,

I like the images on your site. I know the joy and frustration of underwater photography. I had a look at your equipment page which I found interesting because I have recently acquired a Nikon D70 and have been thinking about getting a housing for it. Up to now, my underwater photograpy has been done with a Nikonos V with a 35mm and 20mm lens. I have always been happy with this camera and the lenses but I have recently been wanting to make the switch to digital for underwater photography.

I am completely unfamiliar with housings and dome ports. I hope you don't mind if I email you if I have any questions about which port accompanies which lens. Out of the lenses that you list on your equipments page, which would you say is your most used lens? I would like to start by getting the housing, one lens, the corresponding dome port and a strobe. Which brand of strobe are you using?

You can have a look at my underwater photography here: http://www.shanepinder.com/underwater.htm.

  6. As I find photo.net to be very useful resource, I would like to

support it by becoming a member. My difficulty is that I cannot pay

my membership by credit card because the country that I live in, The

Bahamas, is not on the list of countries on the credit card payment

form. I do not have a paypal account.

Does anyone know whether The Bahamas will be added to the list of

    countries and, if so, when?

  7. I am using a Quantum T4D flash head and a Quantum Turbo Battery.

This set up is used with a Nikon N90s and a Nikon D70 with the

appropriate ttl adapters. Recently, I have been having a problem

with the flash head not firing and displaying a message

saying "check turbo". This seems to start happening whenever there

are only three indicator lights lit up on the turbo. If all four

lights are lit it does not seem to happen.

This means that the flash only works as long as all four indicator

lights are lit. This greatly reduces the length of time the flash

    head can be used.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? The turbo is only year

and a half old so I don't think the battery cells should need

replacing already. Does anyone know how this problem can be fixed?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  8. Adam,

I can't help you with the Orion but I do use the Mini Trekker. I am able to carry a Nikon N90s, 24mm lens, 50mm lens, 35 - 70mm lens, 80 - 200mm lens, SB-28 flash, and Nikonos V camera with 35mm lens attached. All of this fits in the main compartment. There is also ample room for filters, lens hoods, sync cords, etc. The Mini Trekker is small enough to fit under an airline seat.

  9. Is anyone using a Nikon F100 for weddings? I am currently using a

Nikon N90s and I want to buy another body. I am a bit hesitant

about buying a used N90s and B & H no longer has any new N90s

bodies. I am thinking about buying an F100 and I am trying to find

out how others have found the F100 to be as far as speed in changing

film. The back of the N90s is very easy to open with one hand which

makes it easy to change film quickly. If anyone has any experience

with this I would appreciate hearing from you.

  10. Hi Bhushan,

The beach on Paradise Island is great. You can get some good shots there of the beach and of jet-skiing and para-sailing. There are two bridges that link Paradise Island to Nassau. The western bridge (traffic flows from Nassau to Paradise Island across this bridge) is a good vantage point to get shots of the Atlantis Hotel in the late afternoon. The sun will be setting behind you as you look toward Atlantis which creates a nice light on the hotel. The eastern bridge is a good spot to get shots of the Nassau harbour looking east from the bridge. This is good for either sunrise shots or late afternoon shots.

There are a number of old forts. From Fort Charlotte you have a good view of the entrance to Nassau Harbour. There is Bay Street with the straw market and the horse and carriage rides. Fort Montagu is an ideal location for sunrise shots.

I don't know how long you will be in Nassau/Paradise Island but if you will have several days, there are a few very nice day trips to the other islands that you can do. One is a day trip to the Exuma Cays. I have done this trip with Powerboat Adventures and it is well worth the money. Their website is http://www.powerboatadventures.com.

Another good trip that can be done in a day or you can stay overnight is the fast ferry trip to Harbour Island. Bahamas Ferries provides this service and their website is http://www.bahamasferries.com.

If you are coming in on vacation you should not have a problem bringing in your camera gear.

A polarizer for your all of your lenses would be a good idea.

The Ministry of Tourism website is http://www.bahamas.com. This is a good site to see the places of interest. If you are interested in seeing some shots of Nassau, Paradise Island and a few of the other islands. My website is http://www.shanepinder.com.

I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your visit.

    Shane
