Troll? No, I have been using a Sony a700 for over a year. I have a Canon G9 that has been IR converted and would prefer to use a Sony dslr. I am asking a legitimate question. I love IR photography and no one, other than Spencers Camera, advertises that they do Sony IR conversions. I am just trying to get some additional information on Spencers, or other companies that do IR conversions on Sony cameras. Pretty legitimate questions, if you ask me!

I am currently using a Canon G9 modified for IR photography by maxmax. I would prefer to use a Sony dslr modified for IR. Unfortunately, I cannot find any company that does this conversion, except a place called Spencers Camera. Has any used this service for IR conversion? Is there anyone else doing IR conversions on Sony cameras?
Thanks!

Does the Crumpler Sporty Guy .6 bag hold the G9 with the lensmate attached?

Of course, Olympus is an option, but I would like to be able to use the aperture ring on the Leica lens (like I did in my film days).

I recently bought a mint Leica 14-150mm lens and am trying to decide which Panasonic camera body would work
best with this lens - the L1 or L10? I really like the controls and build quality of the L1. However, the compact size
and higher resolution of the L10 would make that a good choice also. Which would you choose - the L1, L10, or wait
for something better?
Also, how does the image quality of the 14-150mm lens compare against the Olympus 12-60mm lens?
Thanks!

I am looking for a good backup camera for my Olympus E3. I can get a Panasonic L1 or an Olympus E3 body (both
in mint condition) for about the same price. I mostly shoot landscapes, birds, macro, and family portraits. I like the
Panasonic L1 for its "old" style body, higher MP, and more current technology. I like the Oly. E1 for its better build
quality, more compatability with my E3 (battery, CF cards, other accessories), and better ergonomics.
Which camera would you choose, if both are in the same condition and price?

I recently added an IR converted Pentax K100D and am doing alot more RAW b&w processing. I
currently use Photoshop CS2, but would like to try different software and am considering
Lightzone, Lightroom or Aperture? Which would be better for RAW and b&w processing & printing?
Thanks!

I plan to buy an Oly. E3 and would like to use the Panasonic 14-50mm OIS lens that I love on my Pan. L1.
Would this lens provide enough resolution for the E3? Or would the Oly. 12-60mm lens be a better choice
for the E3?

Rather than buy a used digital camera and paying to have it IR converted, I am
considering the factory converted Fuji IS-1. Anyone using this camera? If so,
how does it compare against a converted IR camera?

I just bought a SONY A700 and am going to buy, based on several reviews of the lens, a Minolta 100-
300mm D APO lens. Is this older lens good enough for the high resolution SONY A700? Is the D version
better than the normal APO version? Would there be a better lens choice in this focal range?
Thanks!!

I have always loved IR (infrared) photography, going back to my film days. I
used to own an IR-converted Canon XT camera and would like to do the same with
an Olympus dlsr. However, I cannot find anyone who does these conversions on
Olympus cameras?
I would prefer to get a camera IR converted, rather than use a R72 filter.
Any suggessions??

Which would you choose: Pentax K10D with grip, kit lens, 360 flash or Panasonic
L1 with kit lens (for about the same price)? I cannot decide between the two
cameras and would really appreciate comments and opinions on which one you
would pick?
Thanks!

Would the Lowepro Pro Mag II AW be large enough to hold my equipment? I have read some excellent reviews on this bag.

I recently sold my Canon 20D and replaced it with a Canon 1Ds. Not
surprisingly, I now need a larger camera bag. I am looking for a
reasonably compact bag that allows access to my equipment. I plan to
use the 1Ds w/28-70 f2.8 attached and store 17-40 & 70-200 f4 lenses
in the bag. I am seriously considering the new Lowepro Slingshot
200, but have doubts that my 1Ds & 3 lenses might not fit in the
bag. Is anyone using the slingshot with their series 1 size cameras?
Would I be better off trying kata, lowepro, tamrac for other bags?

I need a decent medium format film scanner, but cannot afford $1,500
for the top of the line Nikon or Minolta scanners. I have a great
opportunity to purchase a used Polaroid Sprintscan 120 in excellent
condition. Just wondering if the 5-year old technology used by this
film scanner is too dated to be useful. Or, are the results still
good by today's standards? I realize that this film scanner does not
have digital ICE, is noisy, and takes up alot of space. However, if I
can get good MF scans and save lots of money in the process, then I
will buy this scanner.
Opinions??
-
I guess that the answer is, as with most anything, you get what you pay for. I can buy the first Minolta Scan Multi for less than $200, the second Minolta Scan Multi II for around $500, or the current Minolta Scan Multi Pro for $1400+. I can understand the need for digital ice and do not really want a flatbed scanner (despite their improvements). So, I think I will have to bite the bullett & buy the more expensive Nikon or Minolta. Anyone know of any good sources, other than ebay, to get a decent price on a quality scanner? Also, are the Microtek 120tf scanners comparable to the Minolta & Nikon scanners?
-
I have just purchased a used Pentax 645n medium format outfit (they
are at bargain prices right now!). Now I am trying to locate a
reasonable dedicated medium format film scanner. I really cannot
afford the $1500+ for the top of the line Nikon or Minolta film
scanners. How good or bad are the older medium format film scanners,
like the Minolta Scan Multi II, Polaroid 120, Nikon 8000, etc.? Is
the older technology reduced these older film scanners to not being
so good? Or can they still produce high quality results? Does the
better software, like Vuescan, allow these older film scanners to
perform well?

I have owned the tripod for only a week, but find it very easy & straight forward to use. It
has notches to indicate the original (normal) tripod setup and the legs can easily be
adjusted in any conceivable configuration. I am amazed at the build quality of this tripod. I
use it with the Markins M-10 ballhead, but am not sure if I would be better off with the
recommended off-center Gitzo head.
-
It has been recommended that I also purchase a leveller, like the Manfrotto #3502 Ball Camera Leveller, to help level the camera. Does anyone use a leveller with the 2220?
-
I just puchased a Gitzo G2220. Now, I am trying to buy the best ball
head that I can for this tripod. The recommended ball head is the
1276M Offset ball head. I would like to buy the best ball head I can,
but would like to keep the cost to $300 or less for the head. I would
also like to take advantage of the great flexibility provided by the
G2220 and would like to get the ball head which will allow the tripod
to be used to its fullest potential.
Suggestions appreciated.

How do you like El Carma? I was going to buy a Gitzo, but the Velbon line looks like a good, lower priced alternative. But I cannot find alot of information on the line.
-
I have recently discovered the Velbon Neo Carmagne line of tripods.
They look like a good and lower priced alternative to Gitzo. I am
looking at their larger carbon fiber tripods (630/730/830) and was
looking for user opinions on these tripods.
-
I am looking to purchase a Gitzo tripod and have narrowed my choice
to the G1227. Is the G1227LVL worth the extra $150 (vs. the normal
G1227)? I take alot of landscape photographs, and am seriouly
considering paying more for the leveling capabilities. I can find
very few user comments on the G1227LVL. Does anyone have any opinions
on the G1227LVL (vs. the G1227)?

Yes, I am looking for the Gladstone bags by CGS. Has anyone owned and
used these bags? If so, how is the quality (vs. Billingham, etc.)?
3rd Party Battery Grips - any good?
in Sony/Minolta
