chiaroscuro - a word borrowed from Italian ("light and shade" or
"dark") referring to modeling by depicting light and shade by
contrasting them boldly.

Owen;
my thanks again. my attempt was to blur the boundaries between flesh and covering on the extreme right and left of the body (shadow and light, respectively). i'll try a reprint tomorrow.
i've perused your portfolio; excellent work. demands a good night's sleep and some fresh coffee from me. i'm looking forward to setting aside some time tomorrow to take it all in.
-edit- i realize that i did achieve this:
"my attempt was to blur the boundaries between flesh and covering on the extreme right and left of the body (shadow and light, respectively)"
but clearly it is not effective. reprint is in order.

it works exceptionally well by itself. there is just the right amount of information, although a nit pick is the view of the sidewalk through the thighs of the woman on the right.
the people are nicely placed on either end of the frame and they are clearly communicating about something.
it's simple and rather elegant.

Owen;
thanks; i will post more. ratings w/out comments mean sh*t to me anyway. i'll upload w/out copyright.

white: check
gray: check
black: visible up to 'h'. if i strain hard enough i can pretend to see the 'i', but casually viewing and the absence of self persuasiveness, i can't see it.
i want my 'i' and 'j'!
update: i tweaked my gamma and now have my i and j.

whoa.....
great tonal range, nice separation using contrast of fore and back, and well executed on composition.
lovely.
