this is interesting. I was wondering whether Eyeworks was referring to removing the post-its before or after the photo was taken. I've always had the stance that for any journalism photos they should not be manipulated other than normal colour corrections, getting rid of scratches from scans, or simple dodge/burn type manipulations.
Besides, i did think that the background showed something less sterile than if the background was clean, though maybe I should be going for something cleaner?

I like the idea, it's very pleasing to the eye. However, it might have been more interesting if you could see between the fire trucks and off into the distance. I'm looking at the photo, wanting to see more; wanting to know what the door of the firetruck on the left is hiding.
