The lighting is really amazing, very high contrast but not losing detail

where it is needed. I'd like to know how this scene was lit...

 

There are many things that I like about this picture.

 

The curve of the street as it goes back gives a feeling of space

and mystery as it hides the things in the distance. The sky gives a sense of

open space, the bicycles show something about how people

live and get around there. The lighting has a warm glow. The snow

falling gives a sense of the feel of the air. The architecure is interesting

and evocative.

Makes my mouth water. This is a fabulous image. What camera/lens/film was used to make it?

I like the converging treetops, combined with the close up view of the ground. It makes me think what it must be like up at the tops of the trees, they are all close together conferring or doing something that excludes those of us stuck on the ground. But down on the ground, we can look carefully at what is around beneath our feet.

I like the mixture of abstract shape and concrete details of texture. A potato chip? Flower? Leather sheet?

How do you get such nice black and white from the digital camera?

 

These beautiful compositions inspire me to remember that for all the talk of nth-order effects of lenses and electronic flashes and digital vs. film, it is really about the eye of the photographer. You've made simple objects into whole stories and poems.
