    Good Morning

IMHO, cropping was a solution, but the photo would be better if taken from about the half distance between this point and the tree. Then, these beautiful clouds could be added into the frame just above the tree being larger, yet the composition might be more powerful. Anyway, also the original photo is nice.
  1. This is an unusually shaped birch tree, photographed under

challenging weather, and surface conditions in a remote forest. Like

many of my other arguably successful photos, I could have taken a

classical forest shot at that location, but IMHO this is a different

photograph, though may be disliked because of the absurd shape.

  2. I tried the new compostion offer with some cropping off. About a 1/20 cropping from the right side is O.K, accepting the resultant aspect ratio change, or compensating by an additional cropping from the bottom. I have been concerned if the main tree shade was too centered. But to me, there are strong balancing attributes on the water, close to the right edge, which limit any composition trimming. Otherwise it will be a different photo! Also unfortunately the scan result did not fully reflect the original color range, as there are other balancing red color areas, left to the main shade, together with another interest area by the reflections of white aspen trunks. The total compositional balance feeling depends on the photographic vision, which can show vast differences from one person to another, depending on way of life, knowledge, experience, intelligence, concentration, conditions, preferences, mood, age, sex, everything...
  3. That tree group on the last days of August, quite early for autumn, showed exceptional coloring. All of the leaves had some blights or warts being a part of their nature. Most of this maple subtype, even at different locations tend to be like this. Now you may say, "well if so, don't better take a photo" Though, not necessarily everything natural have to be aesthetic, to me, this point does not render the photograph, and I don't feel it's a kind of self-excuse. I'd welcome any further opinions.
  4. Nice photo of an interesting object, with good color contrast; but could the berries be sharper by more precise focusing, at least one sharper area, maybe like on the front? To me, a squarish format after cropping of the right side about 1/4, placing the right corner to the right of the rightmost fern(?)leaf, will make a much stronger photo; since the details on the moss are weak and that's unbalancing the whole photo with interesting features to the left. The leaves will play a good balancing role to the main object, in this new format.

A very centered and low-key photo with loss of details from low exposure. The sun's reflection might have been an interesing feature if it were not squeezed and cut at the bottom edge. A vertical composition including the reflection with less sky area, would be a better option if the angle of view was fixed. There's quite wrong composition and exposure, likely resulted by technical limitiations, and the mood at the time the photo was taken.

Nice texture and colors. Nice proportion of two different fields. Could it be sharper, with more DOF? How about cropping off the sky and bottom, like 1/6(of the shorter edge) from the top & 1/10 from the bottom? Just my own feeling. There may be a special effect or mood that you liked to express that I've missed.
