I started geotagging fungi pictures using a GarminETrex attached to a serial to 10 pin converter. Now I geotag most birds pictures and I changed to a GPS unit from Promote Systems (http://www.promotesystems.com) that attach to the camera 10 pin connector. It is compact, has a Sirf Star III chip that is very sensitive and fast to acquire signal from the satellites and has an efficient energy saving scheme

I don't care about Amazon users' reviews anymore since a guy single-starred an all aluminium Manfrotto tripod telling it had a plastic head and the review passed the moderation/censorship. On the other hand a friend of mine wrote a very detailed product review and it was censored because he made a mention to the vendor (and the vendor was not Amazon associated).

My Nikon F2 DP-1 is my favorite camera.

My film camera's choice is 24/2.8, 50/2 and a 105 2.5
On DX format I carry a 12-24, 18-70 and a prime according to the needs

I had my 55/2.8 blades and focus cam cleaned and relubed two times in the last ten years. The second time (about 8 years ago) the guy that did the job told me he used another grease and since then I have no problems, even in very hot tropical climate. I have also a 55/3.5 P.C no AI model, it is very good at close distances but not so good as the 55/2.8 for subjects far from the camera.

I have a D200 and I use a lot of manual focus nikkors with excellent results, including the AIS 180/2.8, 105/2.5, 55/2.8, 50/1.4, 35/2 and 28/2.8. I understand that the new generation of bodies (D300, D300s, D700, D3) performs still better with these old lenses.

After I started to use DxO to correct CA, this kind of aberration is not a problem anymore.

Mine has a Hoya HMC UV(0) too, and never showed vignetting at 12mm.

For the wide angle, I suggest the Nikkor 12-24 f/4, it is a great lens and will work very well for you.
-
I noticed a reduction in shake at low speeds when I moved from my F and F2 to a D200.
-
Mine favorites are the 28/2.8 AIS and any of the MF 24/2.8
-
I use mine as the normal lens of my D200, very good even at 2.8.
-
I have an old 10.5 cm f/2.5 Nikkor-P without the meter markings, too. But it doesn?t has the EP mark.
-
I use mine as the "normal" lens of my D200, it is an excellent, all around lens.

I?m using the AIS version of the 28mm f/2.8 or, when I need a bit faster lens, an old Nikkor-O 35mm f/2 AI?d on my D200. Both produce excellent results.
-
Did you tried the "GPS Trackmaker" software (http://www.gpstm.com/) via NMEA protocol ?
-
I use the Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 AIS and the Nikkor-O.C 35mm f/2.0 AI?d in this focal length range. Both are very sharp.

Francisco,
You still can buy the EN-EL3a from the www.mercadolivre.com.br sellers, they use to cost less than the "new" EN-EL3e
-
I use DxO for the initial image processing and corrections and Photoshop Elements 5.0 for the rest of the adjusts. I have beta tested Lightroom but it didn?t get me more with respect Elements. Sometime in the future I plan to try out Nikon Capture.

Can?t remember from where I got this hint, but these guys make several cables that work as alternatives to the MC-35 and are cheaper:

DxO sells a software package named Filmpack ( http://www.dxo.com/en/photo/dxo_filmpack )that changes digital images to look like (grain included) the film you choose from a list.

I?m using a DG-2 eyepiece magnifier on my D200 for fine focus adjustments with the AI lenses.
