Hi,
i've just been to 'my equipment' section to add another lens
and i think that i made a small mistake when i keyed in the serial
numbers from my Eos 1Ds & the 2 lenses ( 16-35 f2.8 USM & 70 200
f2.8L IS USM ).
Can someone with a little bit more experience in this please
verify this issue for me and tell me how the serials
look like ( digit code example ) and where i can physically
locate them ). I wrote them down from the stickers that were
on the boxes the equipment came in.
I'm especially unsure about where to find the serial on the 16-35mm
lens ( is it behind the bottom cap on the metal ring? And what
about the speedlite 550? Where 's that number hidden?
Sorry for this rather basic question but i want to be sure i key in
the right number and not the part type number.
Thanks,
Edwin

Phil,
i know RTFM'ing is what i should do and am doing.
I only need to get the TV mode to become as a second nature.
That's what i need and any advice ( even the manual reading )
is greatly appreciated. Don't understand me wrong on that.
If only my dog would not run away from the camera or stick
his tongue out towards the lens when he sees it, all would
be OK pretty soon.
Thanks,
Edwin

Hi,
after a week or 3 of being a happy 1Ds owner i'm getting quite
used to the body except for one issue.
The TV mode setting is still a bit of a mystery for me.
Whenever i switch to this mode and i'm using a shutter speed
faster then 1/60th of a second all i'm getting is
the AV indicator that keeps on flashing 2.8 indicating
there's something not optimally set.
Now when i do continue and take the picture all i'm getting
is 11Megapixels of total blackness. At first i though of having
forgotten to take the lenscap off but that's not the issue.
Does anyone know where i can read a good explanation of that mode?
The TV optimised setting is still a big mystery to me.
Btw, i'm currently using the 16-35 F2.8L USM lense on the 1Ds body
and there's no flash hooked up to the body.
I hope that i'm not boring someone into falling asleep.

Russell,
one advice. Do as i did. Have a chat with them and see what
deal they can offer you. I ordered one ( to be delivered tomorrow )
and got about 2500$ of the price ( for a 1DS combined with the EF16-35
f/2.8L USM ).

Hi,
some of you may remember me asking a lot of questions about the Eos
10D and the 1Ds as i had plans to buy a new digital camera.
Well, i finally made up my mind and purchased one.
Finally this Friday it'll be delivered.
Happy happy joy joy. I can finally start taking pictures again
( couldn't any longer since my old T50 ( shame on me for still
mentioning it ) died in the hands of my mother ( shutter engine
gave up after 19 years ).
So i've got a lot of manual reading ahead this weekend.
Any one from the Dutch speaking part of Belgium in here??
If you do live somewhere between Antwerp & Brussels maybe we can team
up one day if you want to try out the 1Ds?? I'm not as good in writing
a review/test..

Keeping some money aside a good pc & imaging software is a good point.
On the other hand, i haven't mentioned the fact that i already own a quite powerful pc and software. I happen to be a licensed Discreet
3dsMax5 & Combustion 2 user since a couple of years. And you need
some megapower to run them properly.
I've just downloaded & printed some reviews so i'll have enough reading material i can use when making the final decision.
Most of you have seen the 3 types of lenses i specified.
Does anyone happen to know the price for these lenses.
I've got absolutely no clue as to their price.
Thanks everyone,
Edwin

Thanks everyone. This message is a valuable source of info for me
and you can be sure i'll be reading it bit by bit today.
Haven't read all replies yet so i'm a bit short in my reply.
Good try Bob, i had almost bought you one. Keep on trying.

Rich,
thanks and sorry for my type. I meant the 1Ds but made a typo.

Hello,
is there any particular reason, besides the abnormally high price,
why the Eos D1s is not mentioned anywhere on photo.net?
I'm looking into different Eos Digital SLR's and found it bizarre that
the top of the bill model is not mentioned in here anywhere.
What's all this fuss about the image stabilizing function from some
of Canon's lenses. E.g. What would the price be for an EF 75-300mm
f/4-5.6 IS USM ( or the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM ) and what would i
loose when buying the EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM instead.
What does this letter L mean behind the f/xx-yy value?
Sorry if it are a lot of questions but i'm making a big step
from a nearly 20 year old T50 to an Eos Digital model and need some
info before i do something i'll regret later.
Thanks for the info,
Edwin

Hi there ,
thanks for the info.
If someone could have a go at this. Let's say if your kids / little brother or nephew has a gamesconsole, try and take a picture from
the monitor at 1250 & 1600ISO. If it works reasonably at either
one of these settings i know which model to choose.
I don't mind paying the extra bit to get a unit that does the trick.
Furthermore having the pictures in digital format would be a benefit
for me since i would loose less quality in converting them from
negative. Would be ideal for high quality textures for CG use.
Besides being interested in the fine art of taking pictures i happen
to be an adept of CG design ( 3ds Max / Combustion etc... )
Again, thanks for all the info.

Hello,
it may sound as a stupid question for someone but hey, i'm returning
back to the fine art of taking pictures after loads of years.
Since i'm planning to make the jump from an old Canon T50
( really really old ) to a digital camera i would like to know
the following.
1. Has anyone, lucky enough to already own a digital camera, attempted
to take a photo from a videowall with moving footage ( i.e. taking a
picture from a monitor at a tradeshow event like the Electronic
Entertainment Expo )? What ISO value did you use. I used to shoot
these images with the T50 and an ISO1600 pelicule. The most important
reason was that i needed to take the picture absolutely without using
any flash assistance.
I'm a little bit doubting between models to choose depending on
their ISO capabilities & shutter speeds. I've got a couple of 6+
megapixel units in mind.
If there's anyone who can clarify this for me? I've never tried
it with a lower ISO value since the T50 could only shoot
100/200/400/800&1600ISO and nothing in between.
Thanks,
Edwin

I'm a bit confused by all this. Is there a European version available
of this document? Where would i be able to obtain it? I'm not a pro, just an amateur ( regardless of this, it hurts equally when you see
someone using your images without authorisation ).
Thanks
