3.
Hello, Craig:

Thank for your suggestion. It seems quite interesting. I actually checked the Maine Photographic Workshops' page for info. The next workshop they have on schedule is due in October. I sent a mail asking them whether they could accomodate something in early August. Let's see what they tell me.

  4.
Hello, Mary and Cara:

Thank you for your comments. So far, my plans include going to White Mountains and then, depending on weather conditions, going all the way up to Bar Harbor/Acadia for a couple of days (I wouldn't like to drive that far under rain or fog), or East to the Maine Coast around Portland, and then back to Boston.
Following advise from other photonet members, I have already gathered a lot of info on what to do in/around Boston and in White Mountains Natural Forest.

  5.
Thank you for your comments, Bob, Dick, Leszek, Louie:
I have started to do my homework. I already have good info on covered bridges, waterfalls, etc. in the WM area, as Bob suggested. I have to fine tune my travel plans, including a decision on how far North I can go after White Mountains (Acadia might be a little too far!), assigning time to visit Salem and Rockport (on my way South) and spending some time in Boston (which I had already considered).

  6. Hello, guys:

Thank you all for your posts.

Bob: regarding your questions, I think I lean towards nature photography, sea landscape, etc. rather than architecture. Do you think three

days in White Mountains is good enough, or too much? I would try to leave the car and walk to get to places like waterfalls, ponds, trails,

    etc.

I hadn't consider Cape Cod, but I would now. So, after coming down from WM and the Maine Coast, I would try to spend another day in CC.

    Thanks again for your comments.

  7.
Hello, Photonet members:
I will be traveling to Boston on business at the beginning of August and have the chance to spend a few days in the area on vacation. My wife will accompany me during this trip. I am thinking on renting a car and visit White Mountain National Forest to spend perhaps three or four days there. I could extend my visit to the coast for another couple of days before returning to Boston to fly back home.
I have received very good advise from you in past trips and would certainly appreciate your suggestions or ideas once again.
8.
Hi, Johnny.

Thank for your comments. I will head up North of SF this time. Actually, I spent a couple of weeks a few years ago driving from LA to SF. I even detoured to Yosemite as you suggest.

  9.
Jeff, Phil, Steve, Dan, Bob, Tudor, Mario, Leszak: thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I can see the wide variety of options there are and all of the have enough merits. I will be preparing my itinerary and let you know what I will eventually do. I have about a month's time so I better start making reservations.
Since I will be traveling with business clothing, papers, laptop, etc. I will have to take only basic photo equipment: a DSLR, a couple of lenses (one wide angle, one compact zoom), a P&S, a couple of filters, perhaps a monopod. I wonder if I would need a 70-200 telephoto?

  10.
Thanks for the answers, guys. Just to make it clear, I have four or five days off before my job appointments. I intend to rent a car at SF Airport. I visited the area south of SF some years ago, that's why I want to try North this time. The wine country is a possibility, obviously. I may try to go further North, perhaps even to the Humboldt Redwood State Park.

  11.
Hi, everybody:
A few months ago I consulted photonet members on traveling to western NY State. I received excellent suggestions, which contributed to a very successful trip. This time, my job will take me to San Francisco over the second week of August. I am thinking on traveling a week ahead and spend time touring Northern California with my wife. I have already checked Skip Wilson's post on a similar matter (dated April 3), which originated a number of good responses. I wonder if somebody else can comment and suggest other things.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
12.
Hello:
I am back from Western NY State. Following the advice that some photonet members gave me about a month ago, my wife and I spent three days in the Finger Lakes area this past week. Particularly, we used Watkins Glen as center of operations and drove to several places around.
The weather cooperated nicely: days were cool but sunny. It was not until I was driving back to NY City that it started to rain.
Several things called my attention. First, the gorgeous colors of some flower trees which were in bloom: whites, yellows, pink, reddish. We do not see these colors in trees in the region of my country I live in. Second, despite being in May, large trees were still brownish and some without new leafs. It seemed spring had not come yet. Third, the very European style of the many churches of various religions that abound in the area. To me, because of their high pointy needles they resembled German churches.
Finally, we spent a lot of time in the various water falls in the area. We met a couple from Massachussets that were after the same. They were very well prepared with books and the like, and gave us good advice on the very best water falls nearby.
So, it was time very well spent. I will post some of the photos we took once I have the time to process them.
Again, my thanks to all of you people that advised me on this matter.
13.
Hello, John d:

You must have red our minds! Our decision leaned towards Watkins Glen.We reserved three days in a B&B there and will use it as a center location to drive around. We decided to leave Niagara Falls for another time. Now, your detailed suggestions and the link you provided me with add a lot of info on options, thank you very much.
14.
Thank you all. I have received wonderful suggestions. I have already done some research on them. I realize I have time constraints so I have to decide where to go and what to skip for another time. I will make my mind up this weekend and let you know.

  15.
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I knew I would get very good advice by asking photo.net members on this matter.
Actually, I realize I didn't tell you guys when my trip was going to take place. It's for the first week of May. I will arrive at NY Friday May 3, meet my wife (she is flying in from a different place), spend Saturday with my son and his wife and then depart for western NY state (Thanks for your correction, Tom) on Sunday. So, I just have a couple of weeks to put all ideas in order and compose my itinerary.

  16.
Hello, everybody:

My wife and I will spend four days in NY. I know the city pretty well as I have travelled there on business perhaps a hundred times. So, this time I want to rent a car and go up to Niagara Falls. We never been there. Can you suggest me any other places to visit while in upper NY State?
Thanks in advance
17.
Hello:
A few weeks ago I posted a message to thank people for their good advice on planning a vacation/photogrpahy trip to the State of Washington. We departed Aug 27. We are back. A quick summary of our trip follows:
- The advice received through this forum was quite valuable. Thanks again to all of you that made comments to my previous posts. In particular, to Tom Mann, who strongly suggested me not to miss Mt. St. Helens. I changed my original plans and visited it both sides and it certainly was worth the change.
- No incidents to report: everything went fine - flights on time, hotel and car reservations as schedule, no traffic problems.
- The weather cooperated nicely: a little bit chilly in the mornings but with a lot of sunshine during the rest of the day. No rain. A bit of fog close to the Pacific Coast.
- Washington is a beautiful state. Living in a dry, desert area, in Mexico, what my wife and I admired the most was the abundance of forests. In particular, the woods in the Olympic peninsula (Hoh Rain Forest) were impressive.
- I took about 2000 photos; my wife, some 500. I had troubles with the exposure of wide angle shots at the beginning, I ended up underexposing by 1/3 or 2/3 to get some detail in the highlights. Anyway, as it usually happens, I suspect 80% of the overall quality of our photography will be concentrated in the 20% of the shots we took (another example of Paretto's Law, I guess).
In the following weeks I will be processing the photos my wife and I took and will post some. Thanks again.

  18.
Hello:
A few months ago I asked for advice regarding a vacation/photography trip to the State of Washington. A lot of people responded and I collected very interesting tips. I really appreciated their help.
The time has come. Next Monday, my wife and I will fly into Seattle to spend a couple of weeks in the area, visiting North Cascades, Lake Chelan, Mt. Rainier, (possibly Mt St. Helens, too) and the Olympic Peninsula. I did a lot of research. I prepared my itinerary. I downloaded a couple of nice apps with info on the parks, etc. Hotel and car reservations have been made. My equipment is ready.
I will report on this trip once I am back home.
Enrique Flores
