I just received a Tokina AT-X pro 80-200mm f/1.8 from a generous
uncle...on loan for a while....i put it on the 300D with no
problem...zoomed, autofocused and shot not problem...tack sharp
pick...can i now state that it is indeed compatible with the 300D at
this point?...B&H lists a relative/next gen of this lense as being
EOS compatible....My concern is that there might be errors that will
build up overtime with use (electronic in nature...along the same
lines as what happens when you don't shutdown a computer properly
and after a while the thing craps out)... Is the approach that if it
works it works and that's that...I'm just concrened that the
firmware or AF or f-stop electronics might freak out one day without
notice...thanks...

"What Jay can do has nothing to do with RAW verses TIFF verses JPEG. The differences do show when he cranks out a huge print but that doesn't alter the fact that the image itself is totally amazing."
I tend to think the above carries the day....if your scrapping for bits and bytes then something is wrong....either it knocks you on your ass or it doesn't....take your favorite photo and fuck with the WB here and there...does it really take away from that "God Damn!" reaction....Just a thought...

Thanks everyone for the input...the 8 bit seem to work...thanks

Note I am using Canon's free FVU

I got a strange message when i tried to open a converted RAW file (to
TIFF) in PS elements 2.0. It tells me that the color (depth) of the
file is not compatible with PS. Any ideas? This should have been
included on my previous post. Sorry about that.

Shot a handfull of RAW images on the way home...opened file viewer
utility to do some converions and one came up as a qeustion mark for
the thumbnail...the manual only says that this indicates that it's a
file type that cannot be read by the viewer...as this doesn't make
sense because they were all RAW, any idea if this is either the camera
or the software tripping up?...is this expected to happen every so
often...have shot about 1000 pics total in ~ 3 months?...anyone else
experience this?

To be fair... in all other respects the bag is indeed pretty damn good....big and padded and incognito so far as other camera bags go...but im still a little bitter

Mark, IF YOU READ MY SECOND POST I SAID I ACCEPT THE POLICY. This is a forum where INDIVIDUALS POST SINGULAR STORIES THAT'S IMPLICIT.
I stated
1. time uf use
2. type uf use
The tear was at a seam.
Take away what you will. I not going to take a poll of other FX-3 users before posting. That's the point. This gets rolled into the archive with all the other stories.

A defective tear inside of a month on a 90 dollar product will end their business quicker than sending me a new bag. B and H was great. I'm dealing directly with Tiffen at this point. Not B and H.
In any case, I accept their policy. The point of the post is that if you want to avoid this sort of thing avoid this bag. That's it.
-
I purchsed this bag from B and H through Tiffen (who is the
manufacturer). I used the bag for month and in that time it was on
my couch, onto my back, on my desk at work and back again. That is
too say, far from extreme use. It then developed a tear in the
nylon shell at the bottom. As this occurred in one month I felt
that they might send me a new bag as i send the other off so i can
continue shooting. (this was the only bag big enough to hold by
rig). They refused. They won't make a move until i send the bag and
play the waiting game. I felt that this was unreasonable in light
of the tear inside of 30 days. I advise against this bag unless you
enjoy downtime. Needless to say I had the Tailor sew it up for 8
bucks. Regardless, Im pissed.

Thanks very much for such in depth responses. Off to compusa tomorrow i guess....pjh

I would like to purchase the above monitor as part of my set-up.
I'm tired of playing the mongoose in trying to get a good look at my
photos on my lap-top. In any case I checked with compusa and NEC
regarding whether or not colorvisions calibration tools can be used
with this model. They gave me a tentative yes. But I'd ike to ask
here: Will this model let me calibrate it using one of colorvisions
tools? If so, what do you recommend? There is a huge price jump
going from the $99.00 product to Spyder pro (200+). What gives?
Other than some bundled software what's the difference?

David....talk about the proverbial light bulb over the head...that's a great idea....I'll give it a shot (no pun intended)...thanks...pjh

John, that's exactly what I'm asking but I'm short a scanner...just wondering if there was another way to create something more authentic looking...thanks..p

I'm looking to create a signature with a bit more authenticity than
some standard ps text. Any suggestions? Any freeware out there? Any
font that might be downloaded from somewhere? Thanks
What constitutes compatibility?
