1.
Yakim, I opted for the 320ex because of the led light for focusing close up in the dark. I used it on my 5Dmkll at a wedding last week and found it worked Ok ( not great) but was better that any thing else that I have found. It is a lot lighter than my 580ll but I wish it had a pull up reflector like the580ll, Bill

  2.
I shoot a lot of night sports. So I got the ELF 4000 to carry around my neck for close shots that my 70-200 won't get. At night I think it is shooting about 6/sec maybe more depending on the lighting. I don't use a flash with my MKIII when shooting sports but it is great to have the one on the 4000 for kids and cheerleaders. The sencer is cmos (not ccd as in the S95) and that makes it shoot faster. I got it from Adorama for about $280/with extra battery and case. So far it seams to be tuff and shoots good at cold soccer games! Check it out, Bill

  3.
If you don't have the 70- 200 f2.8L IS or non IS you should get that first. The 85 is great but I like the 100 macro better. Wow! this could get in your pocket befor this is over. The 70-200 f4 is ok if you are shooting in good light. I find that my subjects do better if I'm not in there face. I sometimes use the 300 f4 out side and I get some great results. I hope this helps, Bill

  4.
Bang for the buck multy task shooting combo, 7D body, 17-40L f4, 24-70L f2.8, 70-200L f2.8, 1.4 teleconverter, 50 f2.5macro (is sharper than the 50 f1.4) and a good mono-pod ($100). Bodies change about once a year with bigger and better features so next year he will want the new body what ever it is. Christmas comes but once a year. My next wife is going to be like this one ! Is there any more where you came from, Bill

  5.
I Think that the 70-200 f2.8L IS is the best lens that Canon makes. That said, I shoot air shows, boat races and high school sports mostly night time. I also shoot weddings, senior portraits, and family shoots. I have used the 70-200 on all of the current 1 bodies as well as most of the 1.6 frame bodies. I do use the 24-105 f4L for the wide angel shots but for the action shots I use the 70-200 some times with 1.4 extender for longer range in daylight. I like the nifty 50mm for indoor sports from the floor But I still like the 70-200 for the bleachers. If you don't have one it should be your next lens. Regards, Bill

  6.
Bertie, I just got the 5DmkII It is a big upgrade from my 5D. It is about $500 less than I paid for the mk1. The 70-200 f2.8L IS is my most used lens for outdoor shooting I use the 400 f4L IS some also. Both give me outstanding results. My 70-200f2.8 works very well for action sports and Air shows. I sometimes use the telextenders 1.4x and the 2x with good results in the daylight. I have not used the 50D. Someone will fill you in on the virtues of it. I hope this helps, Bill

00RwIp-101669584.thumb.jpg.60c30908b6aff6a8485f6df4e693cba0.jpg

  7. Lisa, I find that soccer is hard to shoot with good equipment. I shot it with 30D and a 70-200 f2.8L IS until this year (now a 1Dmk3@ 3200 ISO). I used 1600 ISO 1/200th @ f.2.8 and still had to use noise software as well as lighting most pictures in PS. That lens will work on your Rebel but will cost used around $1300 used. I find I need a zoom because the action is from one end of the field to the other in seconds so I am shooting 20ft one second and 50yrds the next. If you are shooting from the stands you might get by with a 300 f4L IS. about $900 used. Always use a mono- pod and mode 2 on the IS. I hope this helps, Bill
  8. Congrats on the wedding Nicole, The Canon site info states less than 1/2 hr. at full resolution with a max of a 4G chip. I think that If you used the live view at the same time ( like most video cameras) it would eat batteries pdq. All video cameras have fairly large batteries. I think the 5dmkII's video section is just a high res clip camera and ment for short high res clips of kids an small events. I'm sure that the video function would be fun at the resception but not the right tool for the actual wedding.

On the other hand the 5DmkII is one of the best still cameras for the low light that you will encounter at most weddings. I have one on order now and can't wait to get my hands on it. I hope this helps, Bill

  9. I have the 1Dmk3 and the old 5D and the images are about the same quality in low light with the mk3 having the edge in

speed for sports. I can't tell any difference in the studio. The 5Dmk2 should top the 1d ser. for ISO but still a little slow

burst speed for sports. My 1dmk3 is still heavy even with the new battery. The 5D is much easer to lug around. That said I

will still up grade to the 5DMK2. For a pro that will get full use from a body the price is right. I hope this helps, Bill

  10. David, I bought the refurb from Adorama and could not be more pleased. I shoot High school sports about 15,000 clicks a season. I also shoot air shows (another 3000 clicks a year). I have owned a 60D, 10D,two 20Ds,5D and now the 1DmarkIII. most of my lenses are L glass. So far my mk3 is the best sports camera that I have ever shot. It is heavy with telephoto lenses but that's what they make mono pods for. I will still use the 5Ds for weddings and studio work. If Adorama still has any I think It's a bargain. Call them first and ask them all the questions. My 2cents, Bill
  11. I have L zooms from 17mm to 300mm. I'm sure that it will be great for indoor sports. I have a volleyball game to shoot Aug. 5 . I guess I'll find out. I will most likely use the f2.8 IS 70-200. It worked OK with the 5D last year.

Bob the box has serial #s and Canon all over it. No blue dot on the box . All I can tell you is I haven't found a daylight focus problem with it in AL servo mode in hot conditions(90F+)shooting bursts 10/sec. 3200 ISO seems to be as good as the 5D at 1600 ISO in just the few shots I have taken around the house. All in all I'm very happy with It.

    Good shooting, Bill

  12. Hi folks, I received a pristine factory referb1dmk3. It came in a factory refurb box with all of the original accessories

last week . I bought it for night high school sports. School starts in a couple of weeks. I took it to the beach and so

far it performs as advertised. It seems to be one of the latest models with the new focus mirror and the latest

firmware. The price was $800 less than a new one. They still have some at Adorama. I was told they were demos

used for seminars and then sent to Canon for factory refurb. So far so good. No focus problems in hot sun w/al servo.

I'll have to wait till school starts to check out the low light stuff. I though maybe that the camera would look beat up

but it looked new. I almost forgot there was free shipping also except for the postage ($2.50) for the 3 yr. mack

warranty that I bought with it. Mack warranty was about $150. Check it out, Bill
