Like Yakim, I love the 24/2.8 too for its compactness, low distortion, reasonable sharpness and good color. CA is not an issue in most cases. I found it stays on my camera more and more times.
Attached photo was taken with this lens on Laguna Beach of CA recently.

Pavel, I believe you will be disappointed if you tries to slow the USM with an extender. An extender results in extra light loss. Therefore it increases the difficulty for the BODY to achieve a correct AF. From your post above, this is the opposite of what you are trying to see.

Fantastic! I did not know Canon EF lenses could be used on a Sigma SD10. What EF lenses have you successfully 'transplanted'?
If you cound reduce the frequency (or amplitude) of the drive singals to the USM motor, is it possible to slow it down? I do not have the detailed information of a USM, but usually a step motor (which I guess a USM should be) would run much slower if drived with signals of lower frequency.

With a little more, 100/2 is also a good choice. It is sharp wide open, and more resitant to flare (according to 'equipment review' of this site, I have no comparison by myself). I use this lens for my son's indoor soccer game and outdoor baseball game, and I like the result.

My Canon 24/2.8 does show some CA in high contrast situation, both at center and edge (with DR). But generally it is very good - sharp and resistant to flare. I do not have any sample by my hand, but can send you some later if you like.
I also agree with Steve that big apertures are not so often used with wide angle lenses.
Happy shooting,

I mostly use Av with my Zenitar FE. Metering is never a problem since it is TTL anyway.
Mine came with EOS mount, no AF, but focusing is not a problem. You can either manually focus with wide open - for brighter image in viewfinder - then stop down to whatever aperture, or simply turn the focusing ring to the approximate distance mark on the scale.
The Zenitar is sharp even wide open, very sharp from 5.6 or down. The front element extrudes so it is easy to get dirt on it, however the low price also give me peace of mind.
Happy shooting

If it were me to make a dicision, I would still choose Canon as I did several years ago.
To me, the worst thing of the 4/3th system is its small sensor. Generally speaking, small sensor means higher noise level and magnification factor - both degrade the image quality. I am an engineer in electronic area, and I just don't believe small sensor will still exist in the mainstream systems in the next 5 years. By that time, the value of 4/3th gears shrink a lot, and you are stuck there.
The bottom line, with Canon you have so many choises, both in bodies and optics. You may even select 3rd parth lenses, if you are not happy with Canon ones.
Besides, I never buy expensive EF-S mount lenses since I use both film and digital, and one day I would buy a full frame, or at lease x1.3 body. I have 24/2.8, 50/1.8, 100/2, 200/2.8L and a Zenitar FE, and I am very happy with them. The next in my wish list is a 400/5.6L and a TS-24.
Happy shooting.

Thank you for all the response.

From previous posts I realized 50/1.4 is much sharper than 24/28-70
2.8L at 2.8. But that is partially because of the 2-stop down for the
50/1.4. Now with the same maximum aperture, does anyone know how the
24/28 prime compares with L zoom at wide open? Thanks in advance.
