1.
I also shoot both digital and film. I use a Canon 40D for wild life and a Toyo 4 X 5 View camera for land scapes. I also still have my dark room and it is used on a regular bases. No film is not dead and I believe that what we will see, is that the strong will survive and film will be available for as long as I will want it.
Yes the price of used equipment has come way down. I can remember looking at the price of an RB67 and thinking, I have to feed the children first. Well I have had three RB 67s, only gave them up when I could no longer hand hold them.

  3.
Just purchased a Graphex Tele Optar 250mm lens and shutter combination. This shutter appears to have been taken apart before I came to own it. Parts rattling around inside of the housing, bipole not working.
The glass is in excellant condition and I would like to be able to use this lens for future work.
Question is which other Graphex shutters will accomodate this lens. Are all the Optar lens/ shutter combinations the same size as regards to the front and rear mountings for the lens. If so I could buy another better quality shutter and fit the 250mm glass to that.

  4.
I have the 70-200 L with IS and don't regret the extra cost. With IS hand held is not a problem and if you are getting older as I am and the Arthritisis is setting in, the IS will buy a few more years of photography.
I shoot mostly birds, butterflies and any other wildlife that will hold still long enough. I have had very good results at photographing birds in flight. Fully 97% of my birds in flight photos are keepers.
As I have aged, I have learned the lesson that there is no economy in buying the cheapest lens, you will only end up buying the better lens after the dissapointment sets in.

  5.
I shoot mostly land scape and wildlife photos with my 40D and a 70-200 F4 L IS lens. There has been much discussion about the lose of auto focus with the 2X extender, but no mention of the auto exposure feature with this set up. I can live with out the auto focus feature but exposure control could be a bit of a problem. Before I spend my money I need to know the facts on this set up.

  6.
I don't have any experience with freezing a camera, but I did once cook a Pentax that I left in my car during the summer heat. Got sooo hot I couldn't hold it in my hand, as you might have guessed it was DOA, still got a $100 bucks for the lens when I traded it for another 35 SLR.
I live in the cold Finger Lakes of New York and frequently take my 40D out in the freezing weather and thus far haven"t had any problems.

  7. I haven't learned to fully us my 40D so, the 50D is of no interest to me. Seems to me that photograpers of old used to use their equipment for many years before trading up; and they still took great pictures. So I indend to do the same. Maybe the time to pick up a second 40

D body as a back up.

  8. After 45 year of photography, I would say that the 40 D ranks right up there with the best cameras I have owned. Someday Cannon will produce a camera that will be a better camera and when that happens I will replace the 40D until then I will continue to use my 40 D just about everyday.
  9. I have had my 40D since late 2007 and it is the best camera I have ever owned. Does more then anything I have owned in the past.

I don't believe that this camera is prone to problems; most problems arise when owners fail to read the owners manual.

Go shoot pictures and enjoy your camera

  10. I just purchased a 40D as my first DSLR up to that point I only shot film and refused to own a digital camera; until the evlotion of the digital in the medium price range got to the point of being better then film. Well you can find all my film gear on e-bay--- so far it is the best move I have ever made.

Go to the local camera store and put this beauty in your hands and then make the choise to buy.

  11. I have purchased these on E-Bay, if you are willing to wait it out they cam be had for about $35. if not the sky is the limit. Also look into buying a parts camera, which sometimes come up on

    E-Bay

  12. I have two 124G's and a 12 all three purchased on E-Bay for less then $300 for the lot. All three take great pictures all the meters are working, but I use a hand held for all shots.

Why own three.... spare parts when one of them finally goes belly up which I don't see happening in the near future. For an entry level camera you can't beat the price/quality of the Yashica.
