  1. This is fantastic! Thanks so much for all your answers. I especially like the link Karl posted (skyandtelescope.com). I'll be anxious to see the pictures taken with telescopes. I'm still going to try to photograph it, and even if I don't get a decent picture, I'm sure it will be fun. I might have to explain it to others, but at least I'll know what it is!
  2. I don't do digital photography, I'm still a film user, so please

forgive my ignorance. I was talking with someone today who had hired

a wedding photographer who used digital equipment, and she said the

photographer showed her a sample album in which the photos on each

page of the album were laminated. I'm curious - does this help keep

the photos from fading? Otherwise why would the photos in the album

    be laminated?

  3. Doug, thanks - yes I do have modeling lights and have been taking a meter reading of the main and fill. But my flash meter is a cheapie and probably not too accurate. Yes, the fill is opposite the main also at 45 degrees, but I usually place it a little lower than the main, so it is about level with the face, while the main is just above. I will try moving the fill in closer to the subject and both lights closer to the camera at the 15 degree angle. What do you mean by placing the fill "a bit more angled"? Closer to the camera?

B.Tipton - thanks for your answer and the picture. Yes, that is the look I am striving for, the soft natural look. Great picture!

One other thing - I have been using the mini softbox on the fill light. Do you think this is a good idea? If not, what would you suggest?

I'm trying to put together a victorian children's setting and trying to achieve the soft modeling of the face that doesn't look like you're using flash.

    Really appreciate your help!
