Wow! The texture of the photo makes it look like a Rockwell painting. I agree with the previous comment - the current cropping is great, also.

Vlad - your "humble opinion" is right on the money. When I came upon this scene, I knew it was a good composition. *But*, I traveled all the way to Venice during two days which happened to be completely dreary and overcast, rendering this shot much more muted than I would have liked. Sometimes we have to take what we get. Thanks for the comment.

Nice balance of color and depth of field. The crack adds great interest.

I did, in fact shoot other shots without the people in the foreground, but I liked this version for two reasons: (1) the fellows in the foreground tend to anchor the shot and provide depth and scale and (2) I noticed the shaft of light happened to illuminate two young females, as if to give the two young gentlemen the "sign" I refer to in the title.
