i dont understand your concerns Raid. This is a thread about what the release of the new Sony models brings to us and that is the use of all the legacy glass some of which was unable to mount on a DSLR.

-

Heavy? i didnt realise the thread was about lens weight!
No the lens is standard with a special E mount convertor.

These Sony offerings are very exciting IMO. I have recently purchased a mint FD 35 TS and am awaiting the EdMika EF conversion kit to arrive.
For the Sony I figured used glass prices are now going to rise especially those that cannot be mounted on a FF DSLR in any way. So ive just bought a Canon 50mm f/0.95 and there are now E-mount conversion kits on ebay. Previously the only FF camera this lens would be useable on was the M240.
Excited to say the least!

If you are using One Shot for focus check its not that preventing the camera firing.

I like the look of the Olympus OM2n, and Nikon F3HP after checking them out.
Which is Olympus model to go for? Also other nikons to consider?
Thanks

Hi, thanks all. I would like to avoid Leica at this point due to cost. So yes I want fast glass of probably 35mm to 55mm
focal length with the important aspect being ease of focus. Being able to focus outside of a centre spot would be great
too.
I'm preferring recommendations for either canon, Nikon and Olympus. I don't wear glasses and have great eye sight.
Thanks

<h5 data-ft="{"type":1,"tn":"K"}">Please recommend me a good bang for buck 35mm film camera that has some great glass available but most importantly has an amazing viewfinder and focus screen for manual focus. I really want to see the snap at 1.2/1.4

Thanks

As long as it fires and i can reduce the output to something below full power it might be worth a try.

Do anybody know (remember) if I could use an old 420EZ with radio triggers as a kick light for the first dance setup at a wedding? I have a 550EX for one trigger that I can manually set power but can I do similar with the 420EZ?

EF 45mm 1.2
But as I dont have that choice then the lens I want to love is the 35 1.4 but the lens I do love is the 50 1.4
Im not as good with the 35mm...

OK thanks. But aside from the stunning way to view photos I just want to get a grip on the technical parameters at work here regarding resolution.
The slide show would be driven via Lightroom.

-

I need a large monitor or TV to display images from a D700.
The monitor will be mounted on a wall and a slide show will connect via mac book pro.
The D700 has an image size of 4256 x 2832 pixels.
An HD TV has a resolution of 1,920x1,080
Barring the differing aspect ratio am i right in thinking to get the best looking image I would resize the D700 image to 1920 for the horizontal edge?
As I want a screen at least 32" then I dont think a PC monitor is available to fulfill this even though it would have a much higher native resolution. Am I right?
Am I also right in thinking that a 32" HDTV has the same native resolution as a 50" HDTV? So the only difference is the screen size. And consequently the larger screen would be better viewed from a greater distance.
Viewing distance would be about 6 feet or 2 Metres if that helps.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm sure there is more to shooting a wedding than unobtrusive candid close ups. No offence taken.

-

I shall try the 24-70 first I think although I am intrigued as to Marc's suggestion of the 24-105. From what I remember Marc now shoots Sony with the in body IS so I can only think it is the IS aspect of the lens that swings it for his recommendation over the extra reach.

-

5D body. I thought that would be the answer.
Thanks

-

Which would be the most useful in your experience to attach to one body?
I would also have 35 1.4, 50 1.4 and 70-200 2.8 and a second body.
Thanks

I worked this out the hard way.
If the speedlite is on Master mode for wireless then continuous shots are not possible after 1 or 2.
If the Speedlite is on Off for wireless then it fires continuous.
Anybody know the reasons why?
It caught me out recently but just curious to know the mechanism why.
Thanks
Camera: 5D, Flash: 580EX

So the main shooter was delighted with my pictures from my first wedding, and I think genuinely so - believe me I take alot of convincing.
I have been asked to do another tomorrow, same guy, different gig etc. But theres a twist. He had emergency appendix on on tuesday so has asked me to lead as he wont be there. There is another shooter for some of the day acting as second now but I have responsibility for the whole day and evening.
The second shooter has shot weddings solo before so should be good for support however the only thing that freaks me out is the formals and yes there is a list although not a large one i'm led to believe.
Any tips for grouping formals and evoking the right reaction gratefully received.
Thanks folks.
Oh, Happy Thanksgiving :)

William, it was OK, i havent seen my images as i handed the cards over at the end of the day. He wanted me to shoot jpg (I always shoot RAW) so I obliged..
I struggled with trying to keep a fast pace and juggle manual exposure and flash compensation in what was rapid changing light outside. I've only really shot manual exposure this year and always previous shot Av and on the 5D the aperture is controlled by the rear wheel as opposed the top wheel in Av (no CF on the 5D to swap them) so adjusting exposure was not totally thought free although I'm sure that will change. The flashes performed as I hoped they would on ETTL.
I'm eager to assist more weddings to sharpen my skills now and also to develop my style. Hopefully I will get a copy of the days images at some point to see how bad they really were.
Thanks again everybody, I can now almost sign off as WW myself now I'm on the way to Weekend Warrior status.

-

Nadine, I dont have any specific issues 'yet' ;). All the techniques seem to work OK when I'm using ETTL.
When using fill flash, under what circumstances do you use HSS by choice? I mean other than when you cant but help get the shutter above max sync speed. I suspect its when you open up the aperture for effect and then have no choice if the ambient light is bright but is the only trade off the power drain/recycle time and effective distance?
I am assisting my first wedding this saturday, no so much second shooting by the sounds of it, but shadowing the main.
I will be shooting manual most of the time if possible. Do any of you drop into Av mode at any time out of interest?
Thankyou for all replies thus far.

-

Thankyou - the site John linked too has far enough information for me and is perfectly useful for my needs.

-

Please can anybody point me to a discussion for fill flash technique for wedding photography - I'm sure there is one by either Marc or Nadine from a few years back..
Also please suggest a diffuser for direct flash outside using fill.
Any other suggestions for this combo when shooting at a wedding?
Thankyou

What are the characteristics of the Summilux ASPH?
in Leica and Rangefinders
Posted

Hello, I'm curious as to the characteristics of the Summilux 35mm ASPH lens.

How does it compare for example to a DSLR 35mm 1.4?

I did a comparison on a Sony A7s here:
http://www.paulmarbrook.com/voigtlander-35mm-1-2-vs-sigma-35mm-art-1-4/

Would love to know your thoughts on the the Summilux 35mm ASPH.

Thanks
