1. One thing to answer : "How big you want to print your pictures ? "
Agree that 4/3 is the smallest sensor of all and the most noisy SLR over others.
But, when we print the result even till the enlargement more than 1 meter, I'm still impressed with the 4/3 system ! where is the noise ? you'll amazed by youself ! :)

And the most important factor for me to stay with 4/3 : Color fidelity.
Olympus is not the most accurate color reproduction camera but very nice and pleasant to our eyes (natural looking).

  2. afaik, Olympus E-System cameras has a narrower dynamic range comparing to Canon/Nikon league.
in Indonesia, there is one guy whose specialize to convert almost all digital cameras into IR-modification (including Olympus D-SLR too).

you can click on the following link to see the Olympus E-510 IR Converted pictures samples.
Hope this helps..

  3. Shun Cheung,
Disadvantage of Olympus 4/3 system comparing to bigger sensor size such Canon/Nikon :
1. Less shallow DOF effect
2. Terrible long exposure shooting (very very slow to write to the card)
3. Smaller sensor also impact to the smaller viewfinder (less comfortable)

But the natural tone color from Olympus ? The best I've seen so far in digital (almost like film). Even the newest D3 and 1Ds Mark 3, I'm daring to compare with the four years old E-1 !! :)

  4. If you have concern on small viewfinder, get the Live View on E-330/E-410/E-510 for yourself.

There are many seller on ebay for Nikkor to 4/3 Adapter (Be careful on some seller whose sell the adapter but the aperture ring will not rotate smoothly)

Here is the sample of E-330 + Nikkor 300 mm f/4 ED IF on Full moon last month.

  5. Try each of them, feel & see the results
This is the best way to judge which one is the best for yourself.

Agree that for the price standpoint, E-500 is on D40x/400D grade. But if you see the pictures, E-500 will easily beat them (JPEG direct out camera)

daring to compare with 40D/D200 ? :)

  6. IMO, the presence of D3/D300 is a great move from Nikon against the competition today.

The real 'homework' for Nikon is the color consistency (Stable WB) on all Nikon D-SLR lineup.

This is a big issue for many Nikonian which doing a lot of post processing after shooting.

Hopefully the new D3/D300 will take a supremacy again in digital imaging market.

  7. Yes.. that is the latest update of E-1 Successor (Project Name : E-P1).

Last week when Olympus had the launching of E-510, I saw this mock-up too.
Latest rumour about the features are :
* 10 MP with Live View Swivelling LCD (5 fps burst rate)
* Integral Antishake on Body (up to 5 stops!! )
* Integrated wireless flash commander with new FL36R & FL50R Flash unit
* 11 Cross AF Points !!
* Dust & Weatherproof body as E-1
* 100% Viewfinder coverage with 1.15x magnification (??)
8. Plus points of D200 (vs 30D)
+ More features built in (i.e : GPS, Intervalometer)
+ Better sealed body
+ More jpeg/raw bursting frame

30D ?
+ Better noise control over ISO 400
+ Longer battery life
D3X?

    See on Sony new Alpha D-SLR. Nikon will response to them accordingly including the usage of bigger sensor as many Nikonian expected.
  9. Biggest drawback from E-1 now :
- Low MP
- Noisy @ high ISO
- Slow response (compare to the modest D-SLR)
- 3 AF Points

From current consumer D-SLR model such E-330/500 and the latest E-410/510, I could predict that Olympus will add many improvment to its E-1 successor. Even the Articulated LCD for Live Preview is nice for candid shooting.

  10. I'm E-1/E-300 user whose having Canon EOS D-SLR as well.

    Major reason to use Olympus is its compactness and wonderful 3D results which cannot get from my Canon/Nikon D-SLR.

Regarding about responsiveness, Olympus is not comparable even with the popular model of Nikon D80 or EOS 400D.

One of my good friend whose using Nikon D70s also gives his impression that Olympus D-SLR is very outstanding system. One of the biggest advantage for him is better picture quality direct out camera (even he uses his terrific Nikkor lens on Olympus body). Also his E-300 could do the right exposure metering with old AI/AI-S Nikkor lens rather than D70s ! (even D80 cannot do the exposure metering too !)
