1.
Louis, thanks for responding. You're experience mirrors mine. I have cleaned the contact points on both the lens and in camera body. So far AF & focus points are dead on. If you haven't already tried, clean the contact points with some alcohol.

  2.
C.P.M-Thank you for responding. I was using SB-800, 1/200, Manual mode on camera, picking my autofocus points. Looking back, i really think it was operator error as I was in a hurry and may have grabbed the wrong AF point. One issue about the D90 i don't like is the AF point selected is difficult to read at times in the view finder.
Robert-Yes, you are right, and thanks for responding. Many AF settings. As an update to Michaels suggestion, I have cleaned the contacts, taken some images that are sharp with AF working perfectly. So far, so good.
Thanks everyone for your thime .

  3.
Shun, Thank you for your comments and yes, that's the lens tied to your link.
Michael, I have cleaned the body contacts so I will see what happens, thanks for your time replying.
Dave, thanks for replying. As I mentioned, this is my first 3rd party lens. This lens is highy rated by many at Photo.net and reviews I have read have been mostly positive. Sample variations are a reality no matter what brand of lens.

  4.
I have a 3 week old (bought new) Tamron 17-50 w/BIM used on a Nikon D90 body. First 3rd party lens I have purchased with help from Photo.Net folks that have used this lens. I am having issues where the lens will just stop auto focusing. A "fee" message appears on top of info window. Either repowering the body, or removing, re-attaching the lens is required and this restores auto focus, until the next time.
As a separate issue, some images are out of focus when autofocus is working. Could be operator error but similar images captured 15 seconds apart shows one image in focus , the other out of focus.
This is driving me nuts. No, I haven't tried cleaning the contacts, however I suspect something more serious is going on.
Before I send the lens in for replacement/repair, any other users of this lens/body combination experiencing same?
Regards,
Bill

  5.
Howard - Bummed to hear about your experience. I didn't have the box. Funny, but I saved the boxes for all my other equipment. I didn't even put the end caps on for fear I wouldn't get them back. I just inserted one of those polyester lens cleaning rags you get when you buy a pair eye glasses on front & rear elements, wrapped it good, when to a UPS store. They bubble wrapped it and off it went.
Shun - Yes, agree, original box is best idea but not convinced you get back what you send regarding accesories. As this was my first experience with Nikon repair, so far so good. By the way, thanks for doing what you do.
6.
Michael - Good stuff. Lens was under warranty by 3 weeks, after 5 years of ownership. Not bad! Thanks for responding.
Howard - Wrapped in clear wrap (like saran wrap), then wrapped in bubble wrap. Inside the box was plastic air pillows. All in all, not bad. Thanks for your question.
JMD-Many thanks.
Sean-Thanks a alot. I will check the Kensington. Thanks for your reply.

  8.
Hi All,
In 2 weeks i will be leaving for a 3 week trip to Japan, China, and Korea. This is my first trip. I am from Georgia in the USA. Question # 1 - Do I require a current converter for my camera battery charger (Nikon D90) etc? If yes, can anyone recommend a good converter. Many thanks.
9.
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share my positive experience with Nikon Service:
Equipment: Nikon 18-70 lens under USA warranty (5 years)
Problem: Zoom froze between 50 & 35 mm settings. Would not zoom to 18mm. Service Repair Rank-B2
Lens bought: 4-27-2005
Shipped to Nikon, Melville, NY - 4-9-2010
Recieved lens back from Nikon, 4-19-2010
Tested lens, all is working perfectly, actually seems sharper.
10.
Brooks-Thanks for your tips. Business trip with some "play" time. Will have laptop for business and WD 500GB HD for back-up. Did not think of burning DVD's good point. I plan on enjoying this trip and not get bogged down with all the equipment. In reality, my D90 & 50mm maybe all I need. Thanks for your response.
Mike-Thanks for sharing your experiences. I agree with the travel light crowd. Thanks for responding.
Ray-Yes, those little primesare the ticket. Did you use your 18-70 much? I'm on the fence on taking it or leaving it. Thanks again.

  11.
Jerry-Thank you for your insight and time.
Sasvata-Was thinking about leaving the 50mm at home. Still a toss up on the 70-300 though. Thankd for your time.
Ray-Agreed. Primes will be going with me. Maybe leave the monopod at home. Thanks for your time.
Vasudevan- Yes, lighter is better. Maybe take just the 2 primes and that's it. Thank you for responding to my question.
Peter-Filter sounds good. takes up no space etc. Thank you for responding.
Leonard-Good idea's on the batteries. Just ordered voltage adapters etc. Torn on bring the SB-800 though. Not convinced on board flash will be good enough for fill in bright light. Thanks for your time.

  12.
Rene- Yes. good idea. I should have some "play" time while working. Thank you for responding
David Lee-I know, the 70-300 is still tempting me. This one maybe a last minute decision. I have thought about a back up. May have to go with D90 and cross my fingers. Thank you for responding, much appreciated.
BM Mills-Great thoughts. really appreciate it. Yes, traveling light is attractive. I do enjoy using those little primes. Need PC for business email. Yes, I do have to work some, darn. Thank for your time in responding.
Tony-We are thinking alike, much appreciate your responding.
Dieter-Interesting perspective. Yes, I was thinking of laptop HD as primary and backing up to WD 500GB portable HD as secondary. My need to reconsider 2nd body. Would be miserable if D90 went down. Thanks for your thinking and responding.
All you guys have been fantastic. Taking time out of your life to answer my question. Much appreciated.

  13.
Robert-Thanks for your time with my question. I was thinking laptop. I have 2, one for business, 1 pleasure. Business one is coming for email etc as this is a business trip first, pleasure trip secondary.
I'd love an Epson Viewer. Present budget doesn't allow it.

  14.
Robert-Good ideas, thank you
Oskar-Great minds think alike, thank you. All lens have hoods.
Arthur-I'll give the 70-300 a second look, I really do like this lens though, thanks.
Dan-Battery charger and maybe some lithiums
Ray-Good points. Travel wil be for business. Door to door service provided by others. Staying in more upscale hotels. Figure a week per country. My gear is flexible so I shoot all in day & night. Any thoughts on backpacks. I have lowepro 200AW. Actually SB-800 isn't all that bad. What about on camera flash? Good enough. Thank you.

  15.
Hi Everyone,
As the subject says. I'll be traveling for 3 weeks. This is what I have:
D90, D70
SB-800
18-70
35 1.8
50 1.8
85 1.8
70-300 VR
This is what I think I should bring, all except D70, 70-300 VR, 50 1.8. In addition, should bring monopod, portable HD, laptop, several 4GB cards. Your comments are really apprecitive. Thanks in advance.
16. Hi Ken,

The SB-50DX will operate the same on an N70 as the N80 & N65. I have an N70 and use both the pop up & SB50DX in conjunction all the time. Just flip up the white plastic flap and pop up the N70 flash. The LCD panel on your SB50DX will show symbols for both flashes. Good luck.

  17. Hi Steve,

I second Jemini answer. I have the Nikkor AF 70-210F4. I really like it. It's lite (compared to the 80-200)and very sharp. The AF won't blind you with speed but than again for portraiture, its perfect.

Try KEH or Charlotte Camera ( where I got mine). Expect to pay around $225-$250 in mint condition. If you can find one, you won't be disappointed. Good luck.
