There is extensive conversation on this topic on the 30D forum on dpreview.com.

If Walnut Creek isn't too far, you might inquire at Reed's Cameras & Imaging. I don't know that you could use their workstation, but you can get their calibration info to set up on your own work station.

Adam,
As a general "walk around" lens, I find that the 75mm of the Tamron isn't long enough for me, so I like the Canon for the 135mm. I also like having the image stabilizer. However I heard great things about the Tamrom's sharpness and I also like having the 2.8 aperture. I like to use the Tamron for people pictures because of it's sharpness. And for the reasonable price of both lens, I figured it was economical for me to keep both.

I bought the Tamron and kept the Canon. I like them both a lot.

It happens continuously on my 10D and I am using all Canon lenses. I've cleaned everything very well and no improvement.
-
I don't have anything to compare my 550EX to, but I am often annoyed by the time it takes to recharge between shots.
-
Steve, I've had the same problem. Error 99 was a very rare occurence for the first year I had my 10D. Now it is continuous, and happens most often with my Canon lenses. In my case, it locks up and you don't get the picture. I've tried all of the usual suggestions of cleaning the contacts and removing the batteries, etc. but it just keeps doing it. I guess I'll have to contact Canon but my warranty is unfortunately expired.

I use Sandisk Ultra II in 512MB size. Amazon has them for $108.

No probelm with Canon rebates at all. Followed the instructions and got my check when promised. As for Dell, they even called and reminded me that I forgot to submit my rebate form, then submitted it over the phone for me after the deadline. Now that's customer service.
-
Mine was installed (bought in May 2003).

I've had my 10D for about a year now, and I never had the Error 99 problem until I used my new Canon 28-135 IS lens on it the other day. I was on a shoot and probably got the error at least 20 times. I was quite surprised since it seems that most of the time this error is associated with 3rd party lenses.

The new Canon 70-300mm DO lens is now on the B&H website. It says
that it's a special order lens and the estimated ship time to B&H is
7-14 days. Seems to conflict with other recent information.
-
Does anyone expect this lens to be any less expensive at B&H or is $1300 pretty much the going price?
-
I have it. It works. It's pretty neat. But I could certainly live without it. The neatest thing about it is being able to tell people that you have it. It sounds more impressive than it is. If you can afford it, get it. If not, use the $$ for the grip.

I have the USM version and I like it a lot. It's good for both macro and portrait (portraits especially with a camera without the digital crop factor).
-
Mark, how could your warranty be up already on a D-Rebel? I didn't think that camera has been out long enough to be out of warranty.
-
The only fixed lens that I have is the 50mm 1.8, but that one has the same front focusing problem as do my zooms.
-
Probably because it will come back from Canon unfixed, just like mine did.
-
I don't know about the non-IS version, but I have the IS version, and I think it's a pretty decent consumer lens. You may want to consider the 100-300mm Canon lense. It's $279 at B&H and I believe most people say it's optically better than the 75-300 lenses.
-
I have the Sigma 15-30 but I think it's more in the $500 range.
-
I'm one of the unlucky ones. My 10D has had the front focusing problem since I got it last May. I finally gave in and decided that it wasn't something that I was doing wrong, and sent it in for service. I came back to me with no change. Still very noticeable front focusing.
-
Hi Pete. I sent my 10D in recently as I said I would. It took about 2 weeks to get back. Unfortunately, there is no difference in the focusing at all. It is still noticeably front focusing. Quite disappointing.

I have the Elan 7E along with the 10D and I like them both a lot. I think it would be a good choice.
