The grain looks fine and I think the composition is wonderful. Nice shot.

this kicks ass

I dig this photo. So what if no one else does. The green tint is super-cool and I like that it's not focused. Don't take it down. Leave this shot up here to piss off all the bastards who say it ain't art.
Peace.

Please?
It's so perfect like this...

Laura,
Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't really think this shot stands up to the quality of work in the rest of your portfolio. This is the only shot of yours that hasn't made me say "wow, that's a really cool way to look at _______". I don't think this is a bad photo, just a plain one, and if the rest of your work was not of such a high caliber, I wouldn't say anything at all.
Just my $.02, hope I didn't offend you.

GREAT shot! The reflection in his eyes really sets off the look on his face. He looks very speculative in this shot. Terrific work!

I really like this one! The focus and short field depth are perfect.
Actually, I like all the work you have put up. Keep it up!

Great shot! The skin tone and look in the eye gives it a very surreal feeling. I would love to know more about how you made this shot. This is a very powerful piece.

Awesome composition, but it is the contrast that makes this shot! Simply terrific!

Thanks for your kind comment on my portfolio. I came here to return the favor, and I must say that this shot and "My very first catch!" are my favorites. You did such a wonderful job with this shot, and I can feel the tired and frustrated feeling through the shot. Beautiful work!

He looks like he's about to cry! I LOVE IT! This is one of the cutest pictures I have ever seen!

No, but then again, I like a lot of contrast. Not seeing the subject's face adds a good sense of mystery. Nice work!

Best rule, no rules - AGREED!
This is a terrific shot. It looks like maybe it need to be rotated 1/2 a degree or so clockwise. The windows look just a tad crooked, but I love the composition and color so much I have to give it a 7/7 anyway! Another fabulous shot!

Great idea! How did you add the light source?
Just an idea, but the effect might be enhanced by increasing the contast, so that the light is a lot brighter and the detail on the face comes in a little bit more.
I really like the effect though. It reminds me of the 'mystery' briefcase from Pulp Fiction.

Too much mystery? I gotta disagree with that. The more mystery, the more people are going to want to look at your picture. Isn't that we put pics up here in the first place?
I like it. The background fits nicely. There is enough blur in it to draw your attention to the sybject, but not so much that it detracts from the context of the photo. I agree that the subject's face is a little underexposed and I would increase the brightness in this shot a little to bring out more detail.
Overall, a very good shot. Great composition, just needs to be a little bit brighter. Nice work!

I really like this one. The vertical lines are so strong that it really makes me feel as if I am standing on a tall ledge, right at the very edge. Really good shot!

Good shot, I'm not sure why you would throw it away. I agree that it is a little dark though.

Another terrific shot! It looks a tad underexposed though (sea & sky look a little dark). Have you tried brightening it?

Roger - What story? What is it about the picture that makes you think/expect there is anything more to it?
Laura gives us a picture and a title, no story. To me, art is all about throwing something out there and hoping that it connects with someone else. If she were to provide a long and detailed story about this shot, then I wouldn't be able to find -my- story in this piece, and it wouldn't make that ineffable 'connection' that good art always does. You have a picture in your portfolio called 'Pride' of a man sitting on a motorcycle. It's a very powerful piece with absolutely no story of who this guy is and why he looks like he does. With no story in the way it's just me staring at him and him staring back at me and all that's left is the inevitable confrontation between our souls... It's a great piece of art.
Laura - I see dirtied hands struggling to hold onto something heavy, dark, and raw. It's an image of every moment in my life when I've refused to give up the thing that was pulling me down even though I knew I was drowning because of it. Good work! Oh, and for what it's worth I think the exposure is fine.
