I have a TC2.0 version II, a Kenko 1.4 and a Sigma latest 1401. Kenko is compatible with all lenses but it wobbles. Sigma is great taking both Nikon and Sigma lenses. However, 80-400 once teleconverted, the image quality drops a lot.

Hi guys, just bought a D500, first DX camera after D70 and start to wonder what wider coverage can I have. I have googled and indeed I am also thinking of Sigma 10-20f3.5. I am after its USM drive....still not used to these older D lenses without AFS on my cameras.
Has anyone got experience

Yellow cheeked Tit in spring time. Taken by D800, 600VR, Kenko 1.4, mounted on a Gitzo tripod with a Manfrotto head.

I am also shooting a D800 for wild life. My combo is a 150 macro sigma and hopefully to get either a 150-600 Tammy or Sigma.
1.7+70-200 is a good combo if you know the limitations.
1. 70-200 is not a real tele as the focal length breathing. VR2 can be as short as 134mm. VR1 is better 182mm. So a long telephoto is always desired.
2. 1.7TC slows down AF speed significantly and cause a compromise in IQ

I am going there with a couple and they warn me against shooting local female...said to be a taboo.

Have been always traveling with more than one camera, one mounted a standard zoom and another either a telephoto or a super wide zoom. I am going to Turkey in a couple of months time and started to worry about weight issue. The thing is, if I carry mirrorless, I have a lot less weight to carry but their AF speed and accuracy is always an issue.

This is my compromised approach by having a China Made X Pro 1.7 (TC/ext tube)...which cheats the camera as having only 1.4x.
This photo was taken using older 70-200 f2.8 plus the X Pro

I also love my a850...so have not bought an A99 yet. However, I believe a newer FF body will be a real competitor for 800D

Same on mine...I do not feel comfortable but...the optical quality is just great

Dear the Original Tim
You made a good decision.
As an owner of Both Canon and Sony cameras including Nex5, I still have reservation on mirrorless camera even though SLT from Sony has been great. The handling of small format camera is not as easy in the field. I also love full frame more. 5D II is at very good value and the image quality from III is very close to version II

I have tried it today...and I did not feel a thing.

Well, that is a tricky question
I have been there for once, driving myself and I brought two/three bodies with 70-200/2.8, 1.4x and 2.0x
The answer is....the lens was simply too short for everything.
If you have not bought 100-400L yet, please reconsider Sigma 120-300/2.8, for an inexpensive start. I have 100-400L and with 1.4x, the autofocus does not work at all.
If you can afford, a 300/2.8 or 400/2.8 is a good start.
For myself, I will bring a 300/2.8 and a 600/4....
.

The Sony version is about 50% more expensive than Nikon/Canon version so I wonder if the optical quality justifies the cost

Frank
Thanks for the response to Carl's review. Although I have been reading Carl's reviews for some time, I have only become a member of his site very recently when he started to bash Sony. Although strictly I am not a Sony fan, I have kept my trust and I have been waiting patiently. I understand the huge effort required to develop a professional body like D300/K7, and I am against pushing product too quickly like what we all see from the flooding of entry level models from Sony.
My initial response to A55 was very positive. So far I have not laid my hands on it. I learned later that there will be no spot meter button, something special from Minolta ages. I will try A55 before making any further purchase. I am expecting reviews from you very soon.

This is not essentially the end of our expected A7xx upgrade. Things are improving. The essential thing left for Sony to do is how to keep up with competition from others. Take for Nikon for an example. The difference between A700 and D300 was too obvious. Side by side for years, I notice constant better image quality from D300 because of
1. better processing
2. better AF tracking
3. better telephoto primes.

I have been wondering if Sony is doing something to improve their AF system. Looking at Nikon, if D90 can be upgraded to a specs seen on D7000, what will happen to a D300s upgrade?

I have tried many cards on my A700 before the much anticipated A850. I will recommend to buy the fastest UDMA CF cards.
Cards working fine on my A850 are, sorted with decreasing writing speed, Transcend 400x 16Gb, Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s 16Gb, Sandisk Extreme IV, Sandisk Extreme III, Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s, Photofast 366x, Pretec 233x 16Gb

Pretec 233x 32Gb does not work on my a850

Maxxum/Dynax 7

My paid a prepayment only the Nex5 2 lens kit is out of stock here. It will be an easy suppliementary to my current dSLR systems. With the use of adaptor, it will definitely use the best of my Minolta/Nikon/Canon lenses

I have 850 for ten months. I will say this is the best camera I have for the past few years. I hate to say I have had so many dSLRs but this one is the best in terms of optical quality it can and size and weight.
It deserves the best optics so I have newly bought a 24-70/2.8 SSM. Yes I can use 24-50/4, 24-105/3.5-4.5 but there is this difference in optical quality.
Less expensive will be a 28-7-70/2.8 SAM
I have 30D which might have a shutter problem so mostly I use EOS 5D instead.

I have a number of portrait lenses. For Alpha mount, I have the Minolta 85G, 100/2.8 varisoft and ZA 135/1.8. Personally I prefer 100/2.8 soft to other lenses as it is light weight and razor sharp

Simply choose the scene you will find all the 13 scenes available

Congrats. I did not have good experience with this lens on Minolta 7D. It is huge and heavy and mine did not have good optical performance

-

Dan, thanks. I am looking into factors from the film first. I need to do more scanning before jumping into conclusion.

-

Thanks and did it. Newer problems will be the colour matching. Previously RVP scanned images looked brilliant but those from E100VS are not. I tried auto level but still there are dull and discoloured. Is there a solution?
