I'm sorry, the photo is technically great but totally masturbatory. You made a pretty picture, lots of people make pretty pictures. I'm missing the conceptual depth.

the over abundance of technique doesn't make up for the soullessness.

Mr Grass Hopper, IMO, is correct. The photograph is stunning, it's a great blend of Odd

Nerdrum, Armin Mersman and especially Manet. There are striking similarities between

    this and Manet's A Bar at the Folies-Bergeres ( http://www.art-and-artist.co.uk/

impressionist/impress-gifetc/manet-folies-bergeres.jpg ), and Olympia. But as beautiful

as this is (btw. I think that the bright corner pushes the photograph in a bolder direction),

it is too derrivitave and therefore not exceedinly memorable. I think that if you were to

produce these at an alarming pace for 6 months, always concentrating at the one in

progress rather than the ones that came before or will come, you will have something

absolutely spectacular and quite unique. More burned film, less thought!

i like this image a lot... personally, i think that maybe you should remove about 3 points of green to set the background off a little more.

Bosch.. . . this reminds me of those modern remakes of classic films. People won't just leave good enough alone. You should be ashamed of yourself.

you need more to make this work. layer masks and blah blah blah only work if the origional photograph is of worth. Photoshop and other digital imaging programs should be a means to an end not an end in and of itself.

Whatever beauty this photography had was completely destroyed with the use of a filter. I would recommend the following 3 things:

    1) Hit undo.

    2) Quit out of the program.

    3) Shoot photographs as final products not as things to be fixed digitally.

Almost every time I teach/sub for a photo class I get someone who photographs a carnival or something and I thought I had seen it all. This is fantastic . . . but . . . eventually the center weighted picture takes so much away. I keep thinking of my drawing prof who used to bitch and moan about kids who had mad drawing skills and could render their sketches forever but always put the subject smack in the middle of the paper.

As I said, I think this photograph is great, but I want it to be great for more than just sex appeal! If you were in class with me I'd make you shoot 20 rolls of stuff like this 'cause it's worth it.

    AND????

Pardon the pun but this image to me is masturbatory. Good lighting, decent pose, nice model etc but so what? Obviously you've got hella skills but this isn't a groundbreaking shot by any means.

I have never offered any critique on anyone's photos here, maybe I'm just in a salty mood, but I had to offer something to this one.

Yeah, the photo's impressive in a very basic manor: 1) wide angle action shots are always impressive 2) who has seen a shot like this before?

But I'm feeling that this photo lacks a lot. For me, the biggest problem is that it's pretty undescernable from a film still. (I can see an IMAX movie with a similar scene in it.) Beyond that, the image is too fuzzy; I'm not referring to the action blur--I happen to like that and feel that the image would be totally wasted had you come closer to "freezing the image"--but rather the fact that nothing seems to be sharp. Is that just the digital aspect of the image? Is it the size? Further, I'm gonna say that the image is a tad too magenta--on an enlarger I would've added maybe 5 points of magenta and two to three of yellow. Finally, I think to focus the eye a bit more the center dusty area should be burned slightly. The light dustyness distracts me too much.

My 2 cents worth. From an art based photo major.

    cheers.
