Hi Ronald, I think you're right, but I've just had a new quote of £600 for the repair, which has got to be worth it. I'll look to change it anyway in the next few weeks, there's a cashback deal on in this country wich brings the price down to about £1600 + vat. Incidentaly, I've used about a whole set of inks trying to clean the nozzles with the various cleaning methods recommended by Epson!
Also at the moment I'm using the printer in an outhouse while I'm building an office, and it's possible that the damage was done by the inks freezing in the head.
Thanks for your help,
Wyn

Hi,
I've had my 7600 since July 2002, and used about 750 Meters of paper
in that time. I'm now having to replace the print head at a cost of
at least £1,000. What life have other users had out of the print
head on the 7600? As the head is supposed to last the lifetime of
the machine, I'm reluctant to spend £££ on it if it is approaching
the end of it's life.
Thanks,
Wyn

Hi, there is a limit in photoshop as to the length of print. When I contacted adobe, they recomended two software packages for long prints, one expensive (forgotten which one, I swithched off when I heard the price), and one cheap, £20-£30 called art something (sorry, forgot the name of that as well, but adobe should be able to help out they were very awere of the problem when I contacted them). I was printing text so printing in pieces with the cutter off worked great for me, so I didn't need the software. Apparently, most software packages have the same limitation.

Hi Dag,
If a print is darker, it must use more ink, assuming that the same paper is used. I can't see much difference between 720, 1440 and 2880 DPI on my 7600, either in density or resolution. Although a higher res takes much longer to print.

Hi,
I saw a 24" roll (on a 3" core) of Folex Premium Gloss down to three rolls of 8" using a band saw. Not perfect as the sawn ends tend to stick, but it does work on my 7600.
Good luck if you try it!

Hi,
The amount of ink used would be the same on all settings, otherwise the print would just get darker. On a higher resolution you get more droplets of a smaller size.

Epson 7600 maintenance code 0040
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted
Hi,
I've just switched on my 7600 only for "maintenance req'd 0040" to
appear on the LCD screen. I phoned Epson to be told that "certain
parts have come to the end of their life" and it would cost ?360 to
repair. Has any one got any more information about the fault and
could I repair it myself?
Thanks,
Wyn
