  1. <p>Quick note about Canon EF lenses on mirrorless cameras: You can already use Canon EF lenses on Sony NEX cameras with the Metabone adapter designed by Conurus: <a href="http://www.metabones.com/sony/questions">http://www.metabones.com/sony/questions</a> Electronic aperture control and IS of the lens are preserved, but not autofocus, as far as I can tell. The preservation of full automation including AF would indeed be welcome.</p>
  2. <p>I have a Canon 5D Mark II which does not have Master capabilities, unlike some newer models and the 270EX II flash. The 270 EX II flash has great potential and can trigger the camera as an infrared remote but will not itself fire because the camera does not have the master function. What compact alternatives are there to trigger the flash other than Canon's expensive ST-E2? What is the most compact flash with Master function? I am looking for something smaller and cheaper than Metz 58AF-2, Nissin Di866 Mark II or Canon's flagship. Currently, I am leaning toward the ST-E2 knockoff YongNuo ST-E2 (around $120) but would consider a compact flash with master function built in. My intention is to use this for a light off-camera set-up when traveling.</p>
  3. <p>I am not sure if a stolen camera will qualify. But if you were the registered owner and have documentation to show the loss, calling the Canon Customer Loyalty Program’s (direct number is 866-443-8002, option 2 for digital camera upgrades). This may be another way of getting a refurbished or new camera. Some details:</p>

<p >1) Specify that you have a broken Canon XYZ camera and would like to know what the loyalty upgrade options are. They will try to transfer you to a technician, but you can tell them you just want to know the prices first and the rep can give them to you.</p>

<p >2) Once you are ready, call again. This time, you will get transfered to a technician, who will ask you to desribe the issues. They would verify that 1) it’s broken* and 2) it’s out of warranty (just say you’ve had it for a over a year). Then, he would ask for the broken camera’s serial number, your name, phone, address and email.</p>

<p >3) The technician will give you the prices as well, then transfer you back to the loyalty program rep, who will take your name, phone, address again as well as your credit card. You will get the order number.</p>

  4. <p>I would be interested in using the fast 250mm f2.0 Olymous OM lens on Canon with a teleconverter. Can this be done with a 1.4x <strong>Canon</strong> converter or would it be better to use an <strong>Olympus OM</strong> teleconverter? Thanks in advance! Any user opinions on the lens with/ without teleconverter would be appreciated too.</p>
  5. <p>Regarding Metz flash with the Canon T90: Current Metz SCA adapter flashes such as the 54MZ-3, -4, 4i <strong>will </strong>allow TTL, 1st and second curtain synch, and will automatically set the flash synch speed in the camera. The proper adapter for this is the <strong>SCA 311</strong> mentioned above. Unless you already have a Metz flash or want to trigger multiple flashes with the SCA 3082 or SCA 3083 system module on the remote flash, you will probably be better off with the 300TL.</p>
  6. I have seen two on eBay in the past two to three years. One sold almost immmediately as a buy-it-now for around $2500, if I remember correctly. That one was new and unused and was located in the US. The second one went for about the same amount, was minimally used and sold for almost the same amount. I think that one was from a Japanese seller. The set is bundled with a chrome version of the 50mm f1.2 A lens. Very nice indeed. There are photos at the MIR site. How many were made??
  7. The problems associated with all wide angle zooms (even the most expensive ones) is barrel distortion. This is fixable with software. While it would be nice to have a tilt-shift lens suchas the 24mm TS-E by Canon, it would not provide you with required wide angle field of view. You might as well stay with your lens for now and fix the image perspectives in software or consider a 21mm prime (in which case you will likely still be correcting in your image editor).

" >Panorama Tools</a> is a free Photoshop or PS Essentials plugin which I have heard about.

  8. Shawn: I believe Nikon owns the 28mm category with the 28mm f1.4. I don't have that lens for my F6 so have no first-hand knowlege about it. Furthermore, Zeiss is starting a line of Nikon-mount manual focus primes (50mm and 85mm f1.4 lenses so far). I am hoping for some of their superb wide-angles to join the lineup later this year. For the record, I am into both systems and started with Canon back in 1974 with an EF which is still one of the best-handling cameras ever (check out the current thread in the Canon FD forum.
  9. As Mark mentioned, don't leave home without a spare set of batteries. The Canon EF came with a battery pouch for the strap. I have collected three or four of these cameras of which two are new and unused still in boxes. The Canon EF was my first new SLR I got as a gift in 1974 and is still a favorite. It feels so intuitive and easy to use, perhaps because I grew up with it. The ergonomics are superb!
  10. Fernando: I just came across a most fascinating new addition to Erwin Puts' website. He has obtained original <a href="http://www.imx.nl/zeiss.html" >Zeiss Contarex MTF curves</a> from Zeiss. You can compare these with MTF curves of modern lenses. The last Contax manual focus lenses (and G2, N, and 645 Zeiss lenses) are detailed at the <a href="http://contaxusa.com/" >Contax USA</a> website (still up and running). Of course, these curves do not tell the entire story about these lenses...
  11. I have the Voigtlander 40mm in Olympus and Nikon mounts. It is a fantastic lens which is very sharp wide open at f2.0 due to the aspherical element. No other 40mm ASPH exists and for the price it is a steal. I would not get a third-party lens for your Contax at this point except to fill a rarely used void such as at the ultra-wide end. It is of course tempting to buy a Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm $40 or $50 as some are now advertised (Cameta Camera on eBay). But I think your RX deserves the very best. I have heard that the CZ 28-70mm is not a stellar example of Zeiss glass but have no personal experience. A thought: If you really need a ultrawide lens, you might consider a Vivitar zoom in addition to the Ultron. Let us know more about that 180mm Voigtlander lens you already own.
