    Mysterious?

          11

Pierced nipple with a dangly nipple ring plus nipple in a shaved arm pit (left pit) with almost-long hair providing the illusion of armpit hair with some type of arm-stocking or similar clothing device..

    Am I right or wrong?

    interesting shot regardless,

  1. Unless you have been to Burning Man, saying ?So what? to this image is akin to a man saying ?So what? to a women who is trying to explain what it is like to give birth.

If you had been there you would say, ?Oh yeah, that is exactly what it is like.?

On the other hand I really like the panorama crop Robert, and if it were my piece of art that is portrayed in the picture I might even think of doing it that way.

Technically, it is lacking with blown highlights, but so what. My first though on seeing it was, its the playa. My second thought was, welcome home. My third thought was to note the man at the end of the journey.

As for the panoroma, it is like a man talking about firsthand childbirth. The lack of the mountains ringing the Black Rock Desert ruins the image. Those mountains and the playa below ground the image to a place and an experience. Sometimes content trumps technique, and I enjoyed this image not in spite of its lack of technical perfection, but because of the content and what it represents. Many have shared this journey and know it is a home, loved like many other homes I have head.

Content aside, with a better exposure, I think the panoramic crop has value, but that is because it retains the journey and the fact that the journey is about people.

I hope your camera survived the playa. It is worse than glitter. :o)

thanks for sharing a nice moment,

    Sean

  2. Sorry, but it is an oversaturated, out of focus rose dead center in the frame. This rates low on the originality scheme. Aesthetically, the saturation is so intense that there is no detail in the opposing channels. This makes it look flat. Add in the lack of focus and it just does not do it for me. Just so you know, I put glasses on in the morning to see the world sharp, so unless defocus is used with precise control I see no art in it. I will also note that I checked the full resolution verion before making judgement about the focus.

Such afterthoughts come to my mind too. I spend as much time reviewing my current work and making editorial decisions (delete it, archive it, present it to others, or reshoot it). This is especially true of still life images where I realize I have a sloppily/randomly placed line that should have been aligned with another line in the image to obscure it. I do okay with spotting the lines I wish to make prominent in a compositon. And then there is the shots I love that are just lucky snapshots (or perhaps subconscious decision). Keep working at it. The most important thing is to have fun doing it. You might also consider exploring adding some negative space (more black) at the top of the frame. And you can always digitally recreate that little hook in the lower right corner (copy the left side, mirror it, and then use the free transform command in photoshop to rotate, scale, and skew it).

But in the end it depends on what your goals are. Many want to do it all in camera. It is usually less work to get things right before one presses the shutter release and I try for that. But my goal is to try and share visions with others and I have no qualms about manipulating an image to accentuate the essense of the subject of an image. Your mileage may vary with these ideas so just try and have fun. :o)

    Christmas

A bit overexposed and softly focussed. This image is rather challenging to comprehend (christmas lights). I think the usage of lots of masking tape outside the frame to carefully shape the wiring and control the placement of the lights could lead to a spectacular image (I may try it, flattery at its finest ;o). So technical issues hurt the aethstetic in my opinion(confusing the viewer). But I do find the supernovaesque style is quite unique.

I should note I use the 'Gallelry->Critique Photos' link to rate photos so I only see the images without any explanatory text.
