This is an elegant photograph of an elegant instrument. You don't need to see more of the instrument. If this was on an advertisement for a symphony or classical music then I would know what it was.
Perhaps people are simply not closely associated with this type of entertainment, in which case the photograph is not aimed at them in the first place.
Personally I think it is lovely.

Very nice. Only thing that might have helped it a bit is if the dark top line of trees wasn't right through the middle of the photo. 1/3 rule would have worked well here. I do understand that it would have meant recomposing and cutting out sky or shore. Sacrifices!

Removing those couple of obvious white straws in the background would help this photo a lot. Nice depth of field but rather than throw the bottom bit of the plant out of focus, I think it would have looked nicer to crop it out.

Interesting.

This one is much better than the other couple portrait! It looks much more natural - like you've caught them in their own intimate moment.

I just don't like her red nails. You've got a soft background, soft colour dress, soft makeup and this ghastly red nail polish to ruin the sense of innocence that the rest of the portrait is trying to convey.

This is absolutely brilliant. This is by far one of the most interesting and brilliantly thought-out macros I have ever seen. I wish I could think like this!

Wonderful photo! It's on my desktop for the week Leslie!
I particularly noticed your equipment. With amateur photographers constantly insisting that you can't take quality photos without the most expensive everything from cameras to lenses, I was so happy when I saw you used a lens I own too (a NON-Canon)!
Your photo is beautiful and gives me something to strive for!
