One lens? How about, in addition, sticking with just one film type - B/W or Color? Better yet....just one film within that group. Even that would probably take me a few years to explore nuances and build capability.

I've been shooting with an M6 for a few weeks now with a 35mm lens - a
relative beginner in photography. The 35 is fascinating; but with
closeups of people I have difficulty filling the frame. What should
my next lens be for poeple shots?

A got the .58 (without trying it) because I wanted to improve on the .72 framelines for the 35 lens. And there IS an improvement....but I still find my eye wandering around the frame to see all what's in it. I was hoping it might look like the 50 framelines on the .72, but no such luck. Still, I feel the more I shoot with it, the less of an issue that will be.

Just got my (secondhand) M6 .58 and a 35 f/1.4 ASPH. I'm just
returning to photography as a hobby after 20 years. Back then I shot
with a K1000 and loved it and sold it too soon.

Immediate first impressions after one day with my new outfit:
1. This sucker is HEAVY.
2. The 35 framelines, even on this .58, are not anywhere near as
natural to use as the 50 framelines on the .72 I handled in a shop.
But use of the 35mm is slowly growing on me.

I've budgeted about $2,000 to purchase an M-body and lens. I have
been considering a used M3 and then the best lens I can get. But now
I'm beeing wooed by a new Bessa R2 body instead.
This will be an entry-level system for me - I want to work on my shooting.
Should I try to stick with a Leica body? Or opt for the Bessa and
good lens?

It's not always about clinging to the past or image quality. Sometimes an M6 is just an
M6. See my recent post here from my blog.
