  1. Thanks for doing that sniffing around John.

I think my main point of the question is, why does canon limit us to 30 second

exposures? I doubt there is a mechanical reason for it, I assume the shutter speed at

30 seconds is digitally timed...In which case giving the user the option to choose a

longer period of time should require minimal effort on their part.

What I'm really saying is that I don't want to spend $130 on something that I think the

camera inherently has the ability to do, but doesn't because of a limitation put on it

    by canon.

This 10D is my first venture into the EOS world, I am curious if this limitation also

occurs in the other EOS models.

  2. The question I have is more a question of "why doesn't canon", than "how do I". I

have recently purchased a Canon 10D, and have since been doing some night

photography. I would like to do shots longer than 30 seconds without either

spending at least fifty dollars on the low end remote switch or $130 on the high end

TC-80N3 when the camera with some slight software changes would be capale of

doing the same functions other than remotely triggering the shutter. And before you

suggest taping or rubberbanding the trigger...let me say, NO.

In my opinion, the fact that canon doesn't make the addition to their software, and

the only other option to a timed shot is a $130 piece of equipment is highway

robbery...this is not a difficult change to make, I could probably change it, and my

coding experience is minimal. I am beginning to understand Richard Stallman's

    position on proprietary software...

Oh well, am I way off base wit this, or am I missing something, can I take a six minute

shot without either a TC-80N3 or a "rubber band and a pebble"?

for rubberband and pebble reference see post:
