Very helpful responses, thanks Bela and Andrew :)

Hi all,

Can anyone speak to the quality of an older 500mm f4 P on a D800? I understand it's a manual focus lens, and I'd be using it primarily for static shots (no BIF). I'd love to see comparison shots with a newer AF version, but haven't found any so far.

I'm currently using a 300mm F4 with a 1.4x, and find the images a little soft and in need of more reach for what I'm doing.

Thanks,

Hi all, thanks so much for your input. I went for the f/4 and have been loving it. It's a walk-around lens on my D800, hangs nicely, and the image quality is amazing. Great handling. The 70-200mm f/4 has been a winner for me and my style of shooting, and I feel it's handling have allowed me to get shots I would have otherwise have missed.

Shun, your review played no small part in my decision, thanks :)

That's great, thanks, Ellis. Did you spring for the Nikon mount?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 70-200mm f4 VR, and wanted to see if any owners out there thought afterward that they'd be better off with the 2.8 VRII. Just want to make sure I've considered everything (I've already come to terms with speed, focus breathing, mounts). Thanks!

Ouch. Legit but is unstable with my Mac 10.5.8. Keeps crashing or freezing :(

Hi all,

I have a Voigtlander 15mm I'd like to dust off and use. Leica M9 is out of my (price) league, and reports say the 15mm isn't great on it anyway. The new Fuji x pro 1 looks good, but again initial testing shows smeared corners with the 15mm (though it hasn't been tested with the Fuji adapter).

The Ricoh GXR-M, however, seems to test very well with wide angles. Is anyone using this system and would like to comment? Even better if you've used the 12mm with it.

Thanks

Perfect, thanks guys :D

Hi all,

I'm attempting to use a Mamiya 645 80mm lens with an adapter with a 1.4x extender on my 5d. Everything mounts great, and the image through the viewfinder looks good. When I take the shot, I get this:
Err 01 Communications between the camera and the lens is faulty. Clean the lens.

I am using manual mode. Any ideas how to get this to work?

Thanks,

Hi, I have a 14mm 2.8, 105 2.5 and host of other lenses I'd like to use on the 5D Mark II. I got the Canon primarily to use the 17mm ts e.

No Gs :)

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a Nikon to Canon lens adapter? I know Novoflex is hard to beat, but if anyone's happy with a less expensive option I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

Thanks for this :)

Hi all,

Just wanted to see if anyone knows if a 300TL can be safely used on a 5d Mark II. I understand it'll probably only work in manual if it does; I just don't want to short out anything.

Thanks :)

I love my Mamiya 7s and film, but was just wondering if anyone can think of a digital application for the lenses. I know they would recess very close to a sensor. Has anyone heard of someone experimenting with adapting these lenses to something?

Thanks

Hi, does anyone know if there are any movement limitations with mounting a Canon 17mm ts e on an old A2? Thanks.

Thanks all, I'm looking at a Nikon adapted unit, but know I should spring for new. Problem is I understand the 24 PC hits against the prism on the D700 (you can turn it upside down...), so enter the D3 into my NAS. If only I could hack the Canon 17mm on the D700 ;)

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience they can share in using the Olympus 24 F3.5 Shift on (full-frame) a D700?
Thanks

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience they can share in using the Olympus 24 F3.5 Shift on (full-frame) Canon or Nikon DSLRs? Thanks.

Hi all,
I'm curious to see if anyone has any experience using an adapter to attached their DSLR to Large Format. I understand the image won't be tack sharp, but it looks like it could be fun and used for some short DOF projects. Thanks.

Hi all,
I've come across an Altman 4.5" Baby Zoom Ellipsoidal Strobe with a Norman connector. I have Speedotron and Novatron powerpacks. Is it possible to convert Norman to either of these brands? Is the Altman simple to rewire?
Anyone have any experience with the Altman?
Thanks

If, however, you ever see this image used to sell something, as in an advertisement, unless you've signed a model release then you/family would be entitled to compensation/sue.

Nikon 500mm f4 P on a D800

Thanks, Shun. Critical focus via live view when possible (static landscapes), rangefinder otherwise (with fingers crossed).

I've played around with an adapted Mamiya 500mm f5.6 that did OK for what it was.

I could also consider a Canon 400mm f5.6 as I have a 5D Mark II (that can't autofocus to save its life). Wrong forum, I know, but would be curious if there are any thoughts.
Thanks, Shun!
