I was surprised when in the camera's lcd the image was soooo white. It was taken about 10 minutes before dawn, when the sky was very red, but the sun was below the horizon. I needed 8 seconds to blur the waves. I didn't have the nikon owners manual (coolpix 4500) with me -- I wanted an apeture of f16 or f22 to darken the sky in subsequent shots, but when in manual mode or aperture mode it limited at f7.5. Not sure why. Probably some setting I'm unaware of. Anyway, I appreciate the feedback, everyone!

This shot was inspired by this photo (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1810136) by Gerard Laurenceau while on vacation.
At first I was a little disappointed by how blown out the water and sky were, but I think it adds a delicate, light feeling to the image. Less moody, and more optimistic, perhaps?
I would appreciate your comments, feedback and ratings. Thanks!

Ok so my question is -- what did I do wrong to get this grain? Should I have given the lab specific instructions? Does the presense of all this grain mean that if I try to reprint this neg the grain will always be there?

Your comments and ratings are welcome! Thanks!

I would certainly appreciate any comments positive or negative. This folder was totally inspired by the fences and shadow folder of Miguel Mealha. I'm a total novice, but trying!

I'm curious to recieve opinions as to composition, lighting, mood
etc. I would love to hear your opinions and feedback on how I could
improve it.

Nick, Thanks for the comment. I think you are right, I wish I had included more the the stem. I hadn't realized what was incomplete about the image until you pointed it out, but now that you've mentioned it, you are right. The blooms were drifting about slightly in the breeze. Most of the other exposures were a bit blurry. This was definitely the best of the bunch. I really appreciate your feedback!

This was taken in Fall of 2002, during one of the worst droughts the east coast has seen in many years. For some reason, it made the colors of the trees in my front yard extremely bright and vivid. I caught this one morning, at around 6:30 am when I was leaving for work. I ran back in the house grabbed my camera and shot this without a tripod. As a result I did unsharp mask it with PS a bit. The scanner saturated the colors a bit more than the actual print, but it's pretty close to what I saw that morning.

This was taken at the Armed forces 500 Nascar Winston Cup Race June 2003. It was uncharacteristically cold and rainy during the race. They ran about 20 pace laps after a wreck on the first lap to try and dry off the track. The high cloud cover all but eliminated any shadows, and made the cars almost look like matchbox cars on a childs track. I cropped it to a panorama width to eliminate the inevitable heads of the spectators in the row in front of me. Seating at these events is pretty tight. It's hard to believe those cars are actually doing about 70 miles per hour! I appreciate any comments you have about this picture.

Stephen, Thanks for the comment. When it rains next I might try exactly that. I appreciate your feedback!

I realy wished that one picket in the fence had a broken top that I could have "replaced" with the monument. Unfortunately, all were intact.

Focus appears to be on leaves below flowers. Petals should be in focus. It also is underexposed. Get a bit more light on your subject if you can.

I thinks that's an optical illusion. The rafters in the hall are probably an angled roof (I surmise this by the gutters hanging below it). Otherwise, all the hoizontals are perfectly level. But, it does 'feel' tilted. Otherwise I do like the composition and lighting.

View the larger version... My Wife and I record our memories on the
cork of the wine we are enjoying at the time. After a few years the
corks tell the story of our life together, both the little moments
only we know about to the the really big events many of us have in
common. I printed it on canvas and it hangs over our mantle
(18"x48") so you can read every cork... I would love to hear your
opinions on composition, etc... sometimes i wonder if i should have
included more of the wine glasses with the wine in them for
additional color. Thoughts?
