Samsung SyncMaster 900NF 19" @ 1280 x 1024. Works fine.

Have a look at this side-by-side review of the two:

No. The Q&A on Minolta website says specifically that the holders are not interchangeable. They also have different product numbers.

Have a look at this link:

I'm afraid its 35mm only. No Konica Minolta APS holder for this model and I haven't been able to find a third party one. The cheaper Minolta Scan Dual models can do APS with an optional adapter. If you check Minolta's "interactive Q&A" for the 5400, you'll see:
"Question: Does this model support APS films?
Answer: No, it does not."

Interesting. The information in my version reads:
DiMAGE Scan 1.1.5
DS Elite5400 ROM Version = 1.1.0
Where are you seeing the BIOS reference?

I just finished scanning 40 Kodachromes from the early 1980s with my Minolta 5400. ICE worked very well. There is a very small degree of softening of fine detail but quite acceptable.

I'll be interested to read answers to this question. There should be some amusing ones. Short answer: the film is developped before being scanned.
-
My 5400 has been great for over a year. One annoyance is that the scans are usually tilted about 1/4 degree from horizontal. It could be faster but the newer Nikons weren't out when I purchased and when they did arrive were too expensive. All in all, I think the Minolta is a great deal.

The viewfinder of the D2x, the body construction and the autofocus and metering systems should be superior to the Fuji. The Nikon D2 series is comparable to the F5 while the Fuji is more like the F80.
-
My understanding is that the Minolta 5400 does not tag the scan with a colour profile. When I open an image in Photoshop, I assign a profile and convert to my working colour space. I assign the standard Minolta profile or linear profile depending on how I've scanned. I don't start the scanner through Photoshop so I can't answer your question #2. I have no knowledge of OSX so I can't comment about that.

The Sony DSC-V1 looks like a contender. See the complete review at

<a href="http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscv1/">DP Review - Sony DSC-V1</a>
"Thanks to its laser based 'Hologram AF' assist system (first seen on the DSC-F707) the DSC-V1 manages accurate and fast focus even in complete darkness. Hologram AF works by illuminating the subject with a laser pattern which the video AF system can use to gauge the sharpness of the image and thus the focus position. This system seems to work well with subjects up to 3 m away (at which distance the pattern is approximately 0.6 m wide), further than this and it depends on the size of the subject."

Thanks. Good point about the limited adjustments. Perhaps I'll just have to live with NikonView (6.2 is supposed to handle files from the CP5400) until ACR supports this model.
-
With firmware v1.4, the camera can now produce raw files. Adobe
Camera Raw doesn't support it - yet. I don't want all of NikonView
and am not paying for Nikon Capture. Can I somehow extract just the
Photoshop plugin from NikonView 6.2 to enable opening CP5400 nef
files in Photoshop? Any other suggestions on accessing raw files
from the CP5400? Thanks.

It's a very good scanner. Doesn't crop your 35mm frames like the Nikons do. Make sure you get the latest drivers. Since updating to version 1.4 I don't use linear mode as much. 16-bit tiff opened in Photoshop using the Minolta profile work very well. No green lines for me. Autofocus works very well and you can set the focus point for curved film. I use firewwire. Great scanner for the price.

#1 - A80
#2 - T1
#3 - Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom
Hope you strike it rich. Good luck choosing.

I haven't seen the artifact issue you mention. I was using 1.1.2 and now 1.1.4 so perhaps it's particular to your software version.
Here's a link to a test comparing scan times and quality with ICE on/off and no multi-sampling vs 8x:
