  1. I read the other day about a window in which some people saw the

image of jesus. there were something like 5,000 people a week coming

to view the image. who says abstracts arn't compelling?

My photos are problems waiting for the viewer to solve. The idea being to make the image interesting enough that some viewers loose themselvs in the image for a moment or two using their imagination to define what they see. You get to take part in the creative process,.... if you want. Abstracts arn't for everybody and that's fine.

The San BuenaVentura Artists Union Gallery has a show with the subject Erotica and the challenge was to shoot this theme in my style of abstract photography (see my web-site rivasart.com). The day before the submission deadline I set up this shot and it worked as the jury selected it for the exhibition.

    Abstract

Translucent red bowl with two inches of water and shavings from a

metal lathe are lit with a 150W halogen lamp against the outside of

the bowl and fluorescent lamp 15 foot above the prop. Shot with

chrome film processed c-41 and enlarged as a chromogenic print on

    Kodak Endura Metallic paper.

Most of my Abstracts are shot around 4AM in total darkness using LED

lights for ilumination and long exposures at F22. I am always jazzed

when the print comes out of the processor. Well not always but this

    time I was.

    Blue Arrowheads

I make arrowheads from various pieces of glass and wanted to get the

detail of the work as well as make an artistic statment in blue.

The glass is actually colorless but lit with blue LED light.

  2. The glass tube was 3/4 inch outside diameter and 8 inches long. The blue light is a single blue LED pen light and the camera lens is face to face with the tube and zoomed until it fills the frame.
