I have just bought a Gitzo g-106. I was wondering what experience you folks

have had with this compact tripod and what kind of equipment you have been able

to support effectively on it. Thanks!

For those of us who have been away from serious photography for a while because of other commitments, film photography is still familiar in the same way you never forget how to ride a bike or shift gears in a car. Digital photography, on the other hand, requires you to wake up and pay attention. Basic concepts may be the same, but how you achieve a decent photography requires using some pretty sophisticated skills, like computer literacy and familiarity as well as a new technical language. I suppose it's time to join the 21st century.

Well Bruce, you're probably right. There's so much to learn and try to master! Who has time to take pictures?

I was wondering whether anybody could comment on the apparent fussing around

with the technology that surrounds digital photography. In the various forums

a lot of us are having problems with equipment and the technology. Any ideas?

Thanks for your imput. However, I am still puzzled why my electronic flashes do not fire at the red and black symbols, but at all other speeds (synchronized or not). Any thoughts?

Would anyone know why I am unable to fire an electronic flash with the red and

black lighting symbols on the higher speed dial, but am able to get the flash

to work at all the other settings? Could it be that the symbols were meant for

bulb flash units? Or, could it be that my camera is messed up? Thanks!

I find it strange that the country of manufacture is not printed on

my C1. Any ideas?

I've just inherited an M3 and have noticed that the 1st shutter

curtain opens almost completely but for 1 mm (observed when shutter

speed is on B). Past posts recommend a CLA or repair. My question

is whether this small intrusion into the frame actually affects

picture taking noticeably.

There's a metal ring which sits about in the middle of the inside of the hood collar. It kind of separates the collar in half, the front and the back depending on how the shade is placed on the lens--as a hood or reversed. Sometimes, I find that the ring becomes displaced and needs readjusting. If it is out of place, the teeth of the hood do not secure the rim on the lense properly. Additionally, if you have a filter on your lense, it might not allow you to secure the hood onto the lense properly. Again, the position of the metal ring might prevent a secure bit. Hope this helps.

Can anyone in the simpliest way possible explain the use of the

exposure compensation dial on the Leica R6? Do you meter first using

the shutter speed and aperture and then move the dial to the + or

minus direction, depending upon the compensation you want--or the

other way round.

How much weight (camera, lense, bellows, etc.) do you dare place on a

Leica large ball/socket head?

Can anyone tell me how a Leica R6 modifies the exposure when the

exposure compensation feature is adjusted? Does the R6 modify the

shutter speed accordingly or does it modify the diaphragm? If the

exposure compensation is adjusted while using the dedicated TTL

flash, say to allow for fill-in, could one inadvertantly cause the

camera to choose a too fast shutter speed for proper flash

synchronization? Thanks for your help.

I recently bought a Braun/Leica VarioZoom 340 SCA on ebay. Would

anyone know what the extern mode and a reflector type apparatus at

the flash head are used for? Is there any dedication with the R6?

Has anyone seen a sticky substance develop on the hinged backdoor

margin where it contacts the bady, just under the baseplate. I don't

remember when the camera was new whether there was a foam strip there

that might have deteriorated over time. Any ideas?
