  1. I posted a similar comment to this months ago, but nobody had anything to say about it. The number of times that a photo should have a critique request on it, is once. There should also be a time limit that a photo should be listed in the request for critiques. I'd suggest about 3 months. If you click the "list" link beside a category such as fine art, the number of photos where photographers have requested a critique is huge, and takes a while to load. Some of the photos in the list have been there for years, and some photographers have dozens and dozens of photos that they've requested critiques on.
  2. How often is the top photographers list updated and are the averages

calculated by averaging every rating received or is it calculated by

averaging the photos' averages? When I do a search on top

photographers, the number of photos for the photographer is wrong a

    lot of times.

  3. The thumbnail listing of photos in "Top Photos" haven't updated for

about the past 24 hours. When I click on most of the photos, the

actual number of ratings is much higher than what is being shown in

the text below the thumbnail views. Also, some of the photos that

have past the 3 day mark, still shows up in the default view of "top

photos" which is ranked by number of ratings for past 3 days.

  4. I'm really just learning now about lighting setups and I haven't really tried many different setups yet. I read that a common setup was to have a main light angled to one side of the model, and then a fill light close to the camera on the opposite side to fill in the shadows a bit. I tried with only the softbox right in front and above, angled downwards on the model, but the shadow under the chin, I thought was a little too dark. Filling in with a reflector gave a nice effect, but sometimes you can't get too close with a reflector on a full standing body pose or it'll be in the shot.
  5. Hello. If using a softbox as the main light, is it common to use a

second softbox (maybe smaller, or further back) as the fill light?

I'm very new to studio flash photography and just learning. I like

the look of a softbox as mainlight and a silver reflector for fill

(b&w portrait), but I'm curious to know what else people use to fill

with, ie, what other type of modifiers such as an umbrella, normal

reflector, etc... Doesn't seem right to use soft diffused light as

main, then fill with harsh light.

  6. I do agree. I had to repost myself once, when I wanted to edit the text of a critique request and where there is usually an "edit comment" link, there is a "delete critique request" instead (without a confirmation I should add) and so I accidentally deleted the request and had to repost it. This was a mistake though, and not for the purpose of keeping the photo on the front page of the category.
  7. I've noticed that some photos will reappear on the front page of the

critique request for its category, or some photos will not even leave

the front page, and every once in a while pop up back on the top

row. I'm guessing that some people are purposely deleting their

critique request and then rerequesting it so that it stays on the

front page, so that more people are likely to see it. Isn't this a

little unfair? I don't think it's polite to have your photo keep

bumping other more recent photos off the front page for the sake of

ratings. If the page is going to show only the most recent critique

requests, than maybe a "next" button should be added to continue the

reverse chronological listing on more than one page.
