Sam, thanks for the feedback!

I could see where the group on the bottom could probably stand alone. The upper group, on the other hand, would not work well by itself. There is nothing worse than a composition of just two. Maybe having something in the middle other than the sun's rays could tie it together. Thanks for the input.

Thanks! Yes, one more foot to the left would have done it.

Well, I just installed the Ricoh Pentax Image Transmitter 2 software and gave it try with my 645Z. If tethering software were the deciding factor for my purchase of the 645Z I would cancel the order. The program works but it is so clunky that I can not see how a Pro Photog would be satisfied with using it. For me it will be okay; I will use it occasionally in my backyard, for example, to snap some shots of hummingbirds and such, but beyond that it really is not worth the investment. Regards.

Glenn, thanks for the link. The camranger would certainly fit the bill if it would work with the 645Z. Regards.

I would be interested in hearing about your experiences regarding tethering a camera to a computer. I recently acquired a Pentax 645Z and loaded the Ricoh plugin for Lightroom on my PC. All this provides is essentially a glorified, computerized shutter release button on my PC desktop. The Ricoh Digital Camera Utility program that comes with the 645Z, also installed on the PC, will allow me to transfer the images via a USB3 connection but will not permit any adjustment of the camera itself (such as shutter speed, aperture, focus, WB, etc). I would like to be able to control remotely at least these basic camera functions.

Hello,
If memory serves me SCSI ID 7 is reserved for the adapter card itself so do not use that. You should be fine selecting one of the other numbers for the ID of the scanner. It does not matter what number you use as long as it is not used by another SCSI device. Also, make sure that you have the terminations set correctly. There is a DIP switch on the scanner to do this. The last SCSI device must be terminated, since you have only the scanner it would be the last device on the SCSI cable, right?

The Minolta scanner, when new, came with an Ultra SCSI D-sub half-pitch 50 pin cable. The adapter that I am using on my XP Pro PC is an Adaptec 29320A Ultra320 SCSI chip that is built into the Supermicro MB. Be sure to set your terminations correctly.
Not to insult you but did you remove the locking screw underneath the scanner? That could cause a problem if left in place.

I can't really offer anymore suggestions than what has already been said but I can at least mention my situation. I have the same scanner but I have it connected via the SCSI to a dedicated PC running XP Pro. That is all I use that PC for. I use the Minolta scanning software and the setup works fine. I have experimented with the Firewire on this setup and it woks fine as well but I feel that the SCSI is faster.
I also have experimented using this scanner on a second PC that I have that is running WIN7 Ultimate. The Minolta software will not work on this system so I use Vuescan with this system. I use the Firewire connection on this PC with the Vuescan driver. This system also works fine with no issues with device recognition. I use the above mentioned XP system most of the time because I prefer the Minolta software over the Vuescan. Regards.

Hi Raymond. I have used the scanning service at Metal&Paper Pro (the old WestCoastImaging) for some of my 4x5's and they did a good job using their Tango drum scanner. They will scan up to 2GB (or more) if you want ($$$). Here is a link Scans

Also, I moved Sandy's thread to "Choosing the Right Lens". He explained that it was unintentional that it was started in NWF. We really need more categories on this site. Oftentimes threads are started in NWF that would be more at home elsewhere, but we don't have a good "elsewhere" on the site. It cause a lot of confusion (and conflicts, too, unfortunately). Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas everyone! Regards.

Greetings! I have been busy with Christmas preparations and have not had the time to visit here as much as I would like. I just now saw the thread that has caused the commotion and I have closed it to further replies. As it is very clear in the sticky posting guidelines for the NWF, the thread in question excluded members from contributing and I will not allow that. I am still a big film shooter myself and I can well appreciate a member wanting to have a thread that celebrates that media but it can't be done in the NWF. Regards.

Although the images presented here are nice I am closing this thread because it violates the posting rules by limiting the contributions to a specific medium.

The very first thread in the No Words Forum explains what is allowed or not in that forum. A few words accompanying your photograph is definitely okay. Posting a comment on another's photograph is not allowed. Regards.

"...possessions transition back and forth between treasure and burden...."
Great observation and how true this is, especially as I get older! But, also as I get older, and as my mind's eye dims along with my bodily set, I would like to keep something of that "burden" around me for a little while longer.
Regarding the OP's subject I like to keep backups of my material on external drives (either spinners or SSD's). Even though my main workflow is still scanning film and saving the files to DVD RAM I also send them to the external drive. Periodically these are transported off-site. This is more time consuming than cloud storage but I'm not a big fan of the cloud. Regards.

Hi John, yes, this method works quite well. I have handle grips on both my 6x7 and 67II bodies. The plastic bubble level slides right in and keeps things level. Only problem is that when a shot needs to have a flash attached the bubble level obviously gets in the way, but it is easily removable. Regards.

Have you tried printing using a different method other than an inkjet? I shoot 6x7, scan at home on a Minolta Dimage Multi Pro, and send the file out to be printed on a ZBE Chromira printer. That printer uses RC photo paper and it produces prints that are not unlike, perhaps better, than an optical darkroom would produce. I agree that it is not inexpensive to do this but I really like the results. Two companies that I have used are West Coast Imaging and Denver Digital Imaging. Both are excellent.
In any case I understand your frustration but for different reasons. Film and developing are getting more and more expensive. The waiting to get the finished product back from the labs is often inconvenient. One really needs to get the shot right the first time because of this; there might not be a second opportunity. Myself, I am looking at getting an MF digital camera soon, probably the Pentax 645Z, as this would allow me to use my 6x7 lenses with an adapter. Regards.

Thanks for posting this! I have a 242 that is working fine but one day I might be glad I read your post.

Got it...Thanks!

Glenn, I don't think this working. I tried to do this sometime ago and it still shows "walt". I tried to change it to "WJT".
