  1. <p>My 10-22mm lens hood fell off it's lens into a puddle full of muddy water. I guess I can be thankful that it wasn't hood & lens BUT I still have to complain that Canon hoods are overpriced & under engineered.<br>

Anyhow...even though I washed the hood off when I got home it still left me with a hood with it's little remaining flocking discolored.<br>

And so after my whinning comes my question: What can I use to reflock my lens hood? I googled the question but couldn't find a clear answer.<br>

    Thanks in advance.</p>

  2. <p>I'm looking for Photoshop plugin suggestions.<br>

First one for soft focus or blur.<br /> The second for B&W infrared effect.<br /> Checking some of the back posts I see that Fred Miranda's soft focus filter is well thought of.<br /> Tiffen's Dfx infrared software also seems interesting.<br /> I'll download & give both of those a try.<br /> And so my question (finally) is does anyone have a favorite plugin suggestion they can make?<br /> Thanks in advance.</p>

  3. <p>Declaimer:<br>

Please forgive me if this posted in the wrong forum but I thinkmy question, regarding Canon RAW thumbnails has little interest to a Nikon or Pentax shooter. Please feel free to move it if I'm mistaken.<br>

    Question:<br>

I've spent the last few hours Googling, installing & then rejecting programs that would allow me to view RAW|CR2 & JPG thumbnails right side up in Windows XP's Explorer (c\w SP3 & all .net patches) .<br>

I've got to be brain dead or something because I can't find anything that will allow me to view thumbnail views from my XTi & 50D in Explorer. I've tried Microsoft's RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP -- I can view JPG's but all I see for RAW's is a little Windows type icon.<br>

I've tried ArcSoft's RAW Thumbnail Viewer. It seems to work with my XTi RAW's & JPG'g. It doesn't view the 50D's CR2's nor does it rotate it's JPG's.<br>

I don't really want to purchase some great big expensive program just to look at thumbnails (nor do I as a friend suggested want to buy a MAC!).<br>

Does anyone reading this have a suggestion?<br>

    Thanks in advance.</p>

  4. <p>Thanks all for your help with this (first of many) questions -- I truely appreciate it.<br>

The suggestion to check Canon USA's instructional Flash videos sounds great. as I have a bit of a problem with reading & comprehension these days.<br>

The suggestion to work on a couple of features a day is great as today is Multi-controller, Playback button & Menu button day.<br>

And last -- yes some quality time with the manual is needed.<br>

    Thanks again!</p>

  5. <p>I just purchased a 50D & to be honest I'm quite overwhelmed & puzzled with it. The number of buttons & settings on the camera are quite mind numbing at times.<br /> I think my biggest problem with it at this point is not knowing if the camera is doing what it should or if there is perhaps a fault with it (or is the fault with me!).<br /> So let me ask my first question – it concerns the Multi-controller (MC). First I’ve cleared all the camera’s settings & all the custom functions (I believe) & the camera is turned on. Now can I start the camera’s LCD Monitor by pushing the MC or do I have to push the shutter release half way & then push the MC to get the LCD Monitor working? My 50D’s LCD Monitor doesn’t start off the MC.<br /> Second: Does your LCD Monitor seem to come on with a delay of half a second or so after pushing the MC after the camera has “started”.<br /> Third: Does anyone find they have to push the MC several times to get it working?<br /> And in closing I’ll ask if anyone participates in a 50D forum on the net – one that is exclusive to that camera.<br /> Thanks in advance to all that answer!</p>
  6. <p >Looking For A Linhof Small Top Plate 42 Or Similar </p>

<p >I need an adapter type stud\plate to go from my Linhof Ball Head’s 3\8 -16 female to my quick release 1\4-20 female. </p>

<p >I found a cheaply produced ($20!) one that stripped as I was finger tightening it. </p>

<p >I believe Linhof makes a plate with a male 3\8 on one face & a male 1\4 on its other face. </p>

<p >I placed a WTB in the PhotoNet Classifieds for one. </p>

<p >Does anyone know of something else I could use?</p><div>00RptN-98669584.jpg.69712d1aecfc6482c782123c6bc5f27c.jpg</div>

  7. Hello all as I'm getting older (I hope) I'm getting smarter.<br>

Over the years I've probably bought a dozen tripods & heads -- none were quite right so here's where the smarter

part comes in -- I want buy one last tripod that will last for 10 years or so -- In other words I want to get it

    right this time!<br>

I'm looking at something like the Manfrotto 055MF3 Mag Fiber or anything else in the $200-$300 price range.<br>

I'll screw my Linhof ProFile II head on it.<br>

    Maximum load will be a 300 f4L IS or 80-200 f2.8L IS.<br>

    I'm 6 foot 2 inch so tall is nice.<br>

Ease of use comes first, durability second. Weight is third. Price is forth.<br>

    Any suggestions?<br>

    Thanks in advance!

  8. I have a friend with a Nikon D80. He uses Ken Rockwell's suggested contrast,

sharpness, saturation settings. Photo's look great right out of his camera.

I shoot RAW with my 400D \ XTi & tweak my shots after the fact so I've never

fooled with the camera's custom styles.

A friend is borrowing my 400D to shoot his son's graduation. He asked me what I

would recommend he use for both indoor shots with the 430EX & outdoors possibly

    using the 430EX for fill.

I've got him practicing using my DSLR -- he's shooting like mad!

Lenses will be the 17-40L & the 70-200 F4L IS although he may use a 28-135 IS &

    50 F1.4 instead of the 17-40L.

Any suggestions would be really welcome as he is about to record one of the high

points of both his & his son's life.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. I need a tripod head thread adapter.

I want to go from a 3/8 inch diameter thread male on a Linhof ball head plate to

a 1/4 inch diameter female on a Pentax quick release plate.

I could also remove the ball head plate and use use a stud adapter 3\8 inch male

on one end & 1/4 male on the other end.

So I'm looking for an adapter :(

Does anyone have one or know where to get one would they? I've started looking

around town & I have only been able to find a really tiny cheap alloy one that

will strip as soon as you look at it or a really heavy steel plate device 2 in.

    dia. x 1 in. thick.

    Thanks In Advance!

  10. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

I got really lucky -- I found a mintish Linhof Profi-II Ball Head with 77mm Top Plate! -- Cheap!

I know -- it ain't often the words Linhof & cheap can be uttered in the same breath! :)

The Profi-II is a joy but I'm having problems adapting it's 3/8 inch plate stud to my present 1/4 inch thread female quick connect.

I'll post more on that later.

    Thanks Again Guys!

  11. I'm looking for a mid size ball head & plate system like the RRS BH-40:

    http://www.butzi.net/reviews/rrsbh40.htm

    or the Kirk BH-3:

    http://www.naturephotographers.net/je0202-1.html

Can anyone comment on them? Does anyone have personal experience with another brand?

    I'm concerned with size & quality -- I don't want a 40 ounce head or one one

that slips ever so little as I tighten it.

I'm very hesitant to order one sight unseen as the d**n things cost as much as

    my XTi did :(!

    Thanks in advance.

  12. I'm going on a helicopter adventure.<br>One of the things I'll do during the

trip is shoot a photo or two of my company's mobile equipment & the equipment

operators who will be gathered together for a picnic.<br>

    I'll shoot raw files @ I believe ISO 100 using my XTi. I'll probably use a 50

    f1.4, a 17-40L or a 70-200 f4L IS -- depending on altitude.<br>

I'll try and position things with the sun behind me, bracketing all my shots +\-

    1 stop.<br>

My question is should I worry about vibration?<br>

Does anyone have any other suggestions?<br>

    Thanks in advance!
