Very nicely done, but I can't reaaly see that the more processed version is any better. The unmodified version looks fine to me, and a touch more natural.

Dejan, I like this unusual viewpoint of Mesa Arch. I especially like the way the rim lighting on the  rocks at the bottom and left hand side provide a frame for the base of the image. The rocks do not need lightening - the scene looks natural as it would to the naked eye in my opinion.

I don't agree with some of the previous comments about this image. It may not be original (how do you make an original image of something as iconic and well documented as this?) but it has been well done.

The lighting is perfect - middle of the day sun suits this image as it avoids ugly heavy shadows which would appear earlier and later in the day. The heavily polarized sky works well with the contrasting small white clouds.

Mind you, I am biased, as this isn't too far removed from the image in my portforlio!

One of the nicest formations in Lower Antelope, and one I've attempted myself a few times. However, this is one of the best images I've seen, and it's not the easiest of places to set up a tripod.

Jeff, why would you send this image to the digital dustbin? It's a perfect example of how to compose a square format landscape. It certainly doesn't need cropping on the left hand side, and the central placement of the large rock creates a very restful composition that seems to work better in square format than any other aspect ratio.

Ali, I've just had a look at your portfolio, and you have some very beautiful images. This one caught my eye especially, mainly because of the colour. Is this how it appears to the naked eye, or have you manipulated the image in any way?

It's very reminiscent (as are some of your other images) of some of the landscapes I've seen in the United States.

Thnks for your comment on one of my images, by the way.

  1. Thanks for the comments. Yes, the rocks are very bright - they were facing straight into the sun and so were reflecting the maximum amount of light. I reduced the reflectance slighty by using a polarizer, but I couldn't afford to use it at maximum, as the sky became very dark.
