You mentioned indoor available light work. Personally, I would choose a couple of fixed f2 or f1.4 lenses, but having said that, ISO 1600 works well on the 5D (I chose the 24-15 f4L for general travel photography, and love this lens).

Everything is fine now thanks Sophia, ..after having found the 'hidden' switch.

Michael, there were no instructions in my package, ..and mine came set to 2GB, so it's a warning to check your card I guess.
-
Good stuff!
It would now be most interesting to try out Canon's 10-22 (EF-S)!
-
Thank you Jonas, hidden micro switch located, ..and I now have 244 RAW indicated on my 5D!
My subscription to photo.net has been well rewarded!

Thanks Andy, I will visit my store and try another card (if they will open a pack).

Hmmm, ..I wonder if anyone else has a 4GB CF in their 5D (operating successfully?).
-
Yes, first thing I did.

I consider the 24-105 f4L to be a great choice after comparing the results against my 70-200 f4L, both at 100mm, using aperture f4. The longer lens is only marginally better, but VERY close!

I updated my 2GB CF to 4GB (SanDisk Extreme III), but my camera
indicates 113 RAW shots, just as did the 2GB CF previously.
The manual says "The CF card's capacity displayed on the formatting
screen may be lower than the capacity indicated on the card."
Does anyone know how to deal with this problem/bug?

If you are not entirely sure about the lens you have, why don't you 'borrow' a similar grade lens (say test a lens outside a store) using your 20D, ..take a couple of shots at various apertures, and compare the results to your own lens when you get home. This will help settle your mind one way or the other.
-
Another solution could be to buy the excellent EF17-40 F/4L, and when the odd wide angle composition is needed, join 2-3 shots to have a panorama!
-
..And as for me, I chose the 24-105/f4L.
Easy choice.
Rarely would I need to use f2.8 if it's for light, both the 20D and 5D work extremely well (noise-wise) at higher ISO.
And you have the one lens to carry for most use!
It's very close to the 70-200/f4L in performance, and getting the shot counts for more than trying to compare minor performance details.
IS is very usefull in low light too.

I agree the 17-40/4L is a good choice, and the 70-200/4L is excellent.
However, in my case, I find just using the 24-104/4L is the easiest option when you are on the move.
I use this on my 20D and 5D.
Cheers, William

I love my M7, particularly for the "Auto" feature. I have used this since Jan03. I won't be selling mine (black, 0.72)!

Phillip (travis, thanks), the film is Kodak High-Speed Infared film (400). I used either a 24 or 21mm lens with a red filter (25A). The photo has not been manipulated, just a straight full frame take.

Chris,
Did you lean against a tree or some other strucure?
Thanks

Gary, it would great to find out when this change over occured for the M7 (my M7 number is in-between). I wonder if anyone knows?

Sorry for the slip up here (got distracted while typing). Thanks Jay for your detailed experience and thanks Steve for the potential lightmeter problem causing flare.
-
Thanks for your worthy report, much appreciated, and thanks Jay for
your comment on the likelihood that the lightmeter may be the cause
of the flare problem.

How important are these 30mm (40-70MM)?

You mentioned 2 things.
1/ You would like a new lens.
2/ Travel.
..So that could point to the new 24-105 4L IS.
(I have the 17-40, and the 70-200, but like to just take the 24-105 for travel)
