For birding, I would say D300 is a better choice.

that's amazing! BTW, D90 can use AIS lens definately, for shooting video.

D90 for no brainer reason.

Looks Kyle used the shutter delay function..

From my experience, 16-85 VR and 70-300 VR will be a perfect combo and 18-105 VR will do most job if your budget is tight.

for wild life, D80 upgrade to D300 is a better choice :)

D90 is definately a better choice, for lens, I would recommend a 16-85mm VR plus 50mm 1.4D.

28mm 1.4 is a really nice lens, I love it, though price is a bit expensive.

You can get 14-24mm at a bit more than $1700 on ebay. I just got 24-70mm, which performed beautifully, focus is a bit faster than 28-70mm. to my surprise, the feel is much better (as I thought it's too "thin" at the beginning). did't do much test but I am positive the IQ is better than 28-70mm.

So weird that D3 was already available in many places, Japan, China, France,
Germany...While when I talked to Ritz, they simply saying they have no info
from Nikon yet.
Usually North America is the first place to get those cameras, what's going on
this time?

That's sweet. cong!
200-400 and tc's
in Nikon

When doing air shows, I always put 1.4 TC on my 200-400 zoom and it works like charm. I see the color and contrast drop a bit at F5.6, but above F7.1 it's not an issue at all, when I put it at around 350mm (500mm focus length by 1.4x), it can compete 500mm F4 prime at F7.1. So overall I am very happy with the combo.
1.7x not working well on 200-400, in daytime it still can focus but not that sharp, since the maximum aperture is F6.8 and AF were not supposed to be working. When it's getting dark, you will have hunting issue.
so I would say 1.4x is a good choice for 200-400, as this is my most favorite tele, it's more versatile and renders amazing images, I tried 300mm F2.8 as well but no point of keeping it as I am not a sport journalist and it's not convenient as 200-400.
I got new TC-20E III as well, it works well on 200mm F2.0! Image wise it's even better than 1.7x! But focus on 200-400 won't work almost, though several people get impressive images on 500mm F4 VR.
